I think it was around Sherwood/Old Hammond area.
I always wear my orange when walking in, even on private leases and land. I also light up the woods walking in and out at dark, most of the time that and a "GTFOH" is enough to scare off a hog, coyote, or even a black panther.

I must've had some shitty luck, because I was for 2 years and almost got attacked by wild dogs twice, walked up on meth heads once, had one walk up on me once, actually stepped on a fawn, seen coyotes running across a field from me, and a possible squat encounter (freaky situation). I was also in places where there were a lot of bear sightings.
After the second time with the wild dogs, I always carried. This baw ain't about to get eaten by no cujo and turner and hooch in the middle of the woods

It boiled down to granting bow hunters their constitutional right to bear arms while hunting.

When I came put of the woods one day (while actually bow hunting) to find four THUGS going through my truck. I was parked just outside our gate. They were pulled in right behind me. It was about a ten year cutover, so very thick and well hidden. I was within 40 yards of them (curve in the road) before I even saw what was going on. I think me and one of the dudes saw each other at the same time. He actually broke and ran for their car . A couple of others followed and kept yelling "let's go", but one guy (seemed a little younger) didn't think he needed to be worried at all. In fact, he said "F this MFr. What he gonna do?" Luckily, he realized that none of his buddies were coming back, and in fact had started backing down the road in the car. He turned and ran to the car and they hauled arse. I can't help but wonder what would have happened if one or more of the other's had decided not to back down. That, coupled with watching a drug deal take place in the middle of the public road there, made me decide to arm myself. Even while bow hunting. I don't think I would have done anything different if I had a gun, but I will definitely give myself an advantage if a fight for my life comes to be. I have hunted there for almost 30 years and I'm not scared. But I AM prepared.
FWIW, I have a CC permit. Have had for years, have never actually "carried", but I have it just in case I feel the need to.

I don't get why people think they have to have a gun to be in the woods.
Among other things, some own multiple fine firearms and good leather and like taking them afield.
What fun is a Colt SAA that stays in the safe all the time?

So has anyone got any clarification from LDWF of bringing anything bigger than .22 rat shot on WMAs during bow season? I still think this is the rule even with new laws in effect.

do we have to wear orange now in bow season? I don't want Billy Bob to think I'm some murderous pig that is coming to kill him
Do you think this change will cause your fellow bow hunters to become less cautious or drive a sudden upsurge in new people bowhunting? Just trying to understand.

I would've at least stuck and arrow in their ride as they were leaving.

Ha ha ha! I reckon a "Rage through the Cage" would have scared the crap out of the others.
The thing is, I was hunting, enjoying a really nice day in the woods and never really thought about this situation until I was in the middle of it.

You need to sneak out to check your truck from concealment ALWAYS! Things to check for are 1)green jeans 2)squatch 3) thugs.
Keep being paranoid rookie.

Well I have heard everything then. Not only do we have to watch out for swoopedas, GDCKs, squatches, killer wild hogs, coyotes, bobcats, black panthers, red wolves, chupacabras and rougarous, but now we have to worry about roving bands of wild dogs attacking and killing hunters? (This of course is to be distinguished from the roving bands of meth addicts, often seen in secluded forests.)
We have all seen the news stories of various parish pounds being overrun by their captives.
How are there enough hunters left alive, much less enough to need a message board?

I'm all for carrying a sidearm in the woods just because we can. But never really thought of it as protection. More for shooting a armadillo or water snake if given the chance.
If I'm on my own property I'll almost always have a sidearm to do some target shooting.

We catfish from the bank a bit at the hunting camp and I usually have my Single Six Ruger. If the fish aren't biting we shoot cans or something floating in the water.
Sometimes before hunting season starts a might carry it while working on deer stands, but more times than not I don't.
I don't feel unprotected if I don't have it. Maybe I'd feel different if we had hogs or bears IDK.
