Dude, I spent 5-6 days a week in the woods, not counting all of the other time I've spent in my 31 years, and that situation freaked me out more than anything in my life. What sucked is that i couldnt see what was following me/making noises, and that I couldnt leave because i needed to finish marking trees that day. I'd take central city at 4am over that

It's always a good place and time to insult crossbowers

Why would you be more concerned of a fellow bow hunter shooting you with a pistol than any one else who is legally hunting small game with a shotgun?

I've gotten to where I don't do much walking around during ANY open deer season without orange on. I just remove it while on stand during archery.

Was this the one that was knocking on trees with a stick? Or, was that Tuthillcrazytiger?

do we have to wear orange now in bow season? I don't want Billy Bob to think I'm some murderous pig that is coming to kill him

There are plenty people scared of the woods. I would feel safer with orange and no pistol, than the other way.

I'm far more nervous about the hunters in the woods with guns than any other human I might come across.

I wouldn't set foot on public land without orange.

Fa sho. Thought it was a woodpecker at first. Just an all around freaky situation

But I could have. I have had buddies who have been attacked by wild dogs while walking to the stand. They said the dogs weren't trying to kill them or anything, but I know two guys who got bit by the same pack at different times. I'd rather go prepared

FWIW, my vest is solid blaze orange. I wore it every single time I was by myself in the woods

You don't NEED a seatbelt until you are actually involved in a wreck. Same as not needing a weapon to defend yourself until you do.

If I don't feel safe in certain areas that I hunt due to local crackheads, then I think I should have every right to be packing. And I am. I needed a seatbelt once before and I wear it everyday.

I have a room full of accident files. I have yet to read where any of you jokers actually needed your protection weapon. Hell, one of you donated it to the thug that attacked you

If you are squirrel hunting, why do you need ANOTHER gun to protect you from hogs?

I was just giving an example of an attack happening. As it was, the dude shot the (pretty massive) hog with a .22 and the hog ran off.

Here's another one: my brother and uncle had to wait for half an hour after dark during bow season (Pomme de Terre WMA) because a very large hog was deliberately blocking their path down a dry slough, stomping & grunting, etc., and they couldnt see well enough to shoot with their bows. After half an hour they hadn't heard it for a while and took their chances going down the slough & out the woods.
