yes, but i'll admit it's been a while. Maybe I misread the dude's use of "resource", but there is no doubt on any public road I travel, including I-20, the threat of hitting a deer is real. I say kill them in mass quantities.

AS to the OP, I tote a firearm rifle/pistol/usually both in the woods (private land) nowadays in case I see a hog, not for protection from the hog, but to kill the hog. LDWF should allow the same, to kill hogs any time of the year, but they won't for fear of some arsehole killing one of their deer.

So, a hog laid in his bed and waited while you clanged through the woods with your climber and bow? You then walked within 25-30 steps with him, never spooking him because of your green light and then he slowly got up and walked away? Also, during his slow saunter away, armed only with your non-spooking green light, you were able to ascertain both his weight and sex? Your story is that you saw a non-confrontational hog once and that you now therefore need to bring a pistol in which the probability of you making a kill shot is almost nil and would only escalate any situation you would have with a hog?

May as well open rifle season on Oct. 1
I'm game although it is still a little to warm for me.

historically, the problem is poaching
If someone is poaching they don't follow the regulations anyway, this won't change how they hunt they shoot em with guns during bow season regardless.

It definitely makes it easier to explain to the game warden why you're carrying a gun during bow season.

I carry when I bow hunt

Of course I don't bow hunt in my own yard so based on the rule that I carry when not in my own yard, I am carrying anyway.

What is the chance I will ever need to fire a round?

extremely small chance

What is the value of my life and my families lives over what/whom I may need to fire at?

Extremely higher value

What is the chance that I could apply my values with lethal force during the extremely small chance I would have to do so if I did not have the firearm?

Zero chance

I don't leave things to chance.

Snakes

None of these are legit.

Last time I went bow hunting I killed a 4-5 rattlesnake on my walk in. Luckily I had a .22 pistol with me and snake boots on.

In 1995 I was attacked by a sow protecting a new litter that I couldn't and didn't see...got me on the left leg as i walked by a myrtle bush....never seen or heard them as I crept in before daylight....13 stitchs and a pile of shots in the abdomen as precaution...before I was done.
And then left, right? You would have never gotten a shot off.

We were hog hunting in north ms in 2010 and the hawg got away from the dog and attacked my cousin. The only thing that kept him from getting really injured was the .45 pistol he carried as backup.

I call bullshite. You're going to use your pistol for this just as many times as you do in regular life which is 0.00.

I just hope the feds do not adopt. One of the reasons the NWRs are attractive to me is knowing the gun carrying crazies are not in the woods.

So you are one of the thugs at the WMAs?

You were not protected from the snakes by the .22.

Yes, and you better watch out. I don't give you my agressive look until I'm within 21'.

7 yards?

FWIW if your aggressor is within that distance you may have rendered your firearm useless anyway.

BTW -what up alx?

Have been off TD for 1 month by choice. Did not read back through thread. Assumed you were saying you were only confident "protecting" yourself with your bow at 21 feet or 7 yards.

Is that your "disc" golf "putting" range where you're in the zone?

There's a bit of difference between hog hunting with dogs, when a hog is actually fighting for its life, and just walking through the woods.

While you may choose to clang through the woods, I personally choose to slip through the woods, quietly, so as not to spook any nearby bedded deer.Been doing it for over 25 yrs baw.
As for the boar I know how big he was as I had numerous pics of him prior to that morning from a game cam roughly 80 yards form our encounter., not to mention a pic of him as he exited the oak flat the morning I bumped him. So yeah....same boar.
As for 300lbs, I could be off.
He MAY just be 275, give or take 25 or so. I personally don't have any intention of arguing with him on his personal weight goals.
