How do the "distribution laws favor the bigger breweries"....?
It's a bit complicated but i'll try to sum up. It is required, by law, to pay a distributor to sell your beer to a store. So if you are a small brewery, it would be advantageous to load up the pickup with some kegs and bring them to the bars. Well, tahts against the law in Louisiana, thus the macro's benefit. Macro's also bring more business to the distributors, so that small guy will have a harder time getting his beer sent out.
There is a point where a distributor becomes advantageous to a craft brewery. When logistics and cost reach a point where a distributor is more financially sound, then a craft brewer would use a distributor. But a small brewer shouldn't be forced by law, to have to use distributors.
The macro's and distributors have a close relationship. They are tied at the hip because distribution costs could discourage smaller breweries form even opening.

The steak and asparagus is still sitting uncooked in the fridge.
Woke up to the living room destroyed. Not sure what I was aiming for, but the cushions weren't even on the couch.
I think we were searching for the remote?

I thought it was humorous as our fridge and ice chest was filled with Yates cider, Shorts, Founders, Bells, Petoskey, and Saugatuck. Quite frankly, I have no problem with Budweiser. I would normally only order it when I couldn't find a better option available (airplane, airport, sporting event, etc.) Now, I really don't have to worry about that anymore as more options are becoming readily available.
I feel that Budweiser just whiffed on the ad. Some of these types do drink Grain Belt, Pabst, Goldmine, Miller Hi-Life to be "cool" along with craft beer. However, I never see them ordering a Budweiser. I felt that Budweiser could have used that advertisement to market the beer towards that crowd. Except for Grain Belt, I'd take a Bud over the others "cheap, cool" options I see ordered.

Yeah, I do PBR or High Life because I figure if I'm drinking swill for whatever reason, why not get the one that is $2 vs. $4?

"There is a point where a distributor becomes advantageous to a craft brewery"
Wouldn't this be true for even small sized breweries? AKA every brewery in the state except for maybe Courtyard? Not his plan from what I read anyway...

Bud has purchased 4 craft breweries in the past few years, Goose Island, 10 Barrel, Blue point and Elysian. So they are making fun of their own customers.
on top of that, Elysian brewed a pumpkin peach ale that the Bud spokesman guy pretended he didn't know about

Not really. If you can load up the pickup to bring your kegs to bars, why would you pay for a distributor, at that point in the business?
You a) get to have face to face with the bar owner b) get to check the lines and make sure your kegs are fresh and c) have more say of where your beer goes. You lose those options with a distributor.
There does come a time, in growth, when a distributor is obviously more advantageous. Reduced risk, wider markets, etc... But that should be up to the brewer to decide, not the federal government and the BMC lobbyists.

If you are small and just starting out, you are focused on getting your beer out there. Being able to pass kegs along to bars and restaurants and stores would get your name out. Distributers aren't going around selecting random beers they haven't heard of.. they're getting beer they'll make money on.
Once the demand is there for your beer, the distributer would be advantageous.

I like a good craft beer but some "mavens" can be uppity pussies. Drink the fricking beer and stop bitching about the nose.
I cringe when I even hear the word Maven. Beer snobs are the worst of all the different snobs.
I loved the commercial :

the "maven" tigerdroppings meme was started by some dumb poster insulting craft beer drinkers a year or so ago. I'd dig up one of his threads if I wasn't so lazy

Even that could be affected. Let's say he wanted to open up his shop and have a production brewery going on in the area. If he were to brew all his beer in his now constructed "production brewery" he would have to pay someone to take his beer, and ship it to the brewpub. At least a portion of it. Not sure the numbers but you are only allowed to sell a percentage of your production beer at your brewery.
Example, abita can't ship beer to its own brewpub, because of the 3 tier system.

that guy might be part of the marketing team that made this commercial. Does Elysian or Goose Island brew a "German Chocolate Cake Double-Hopped" stout?
