Still cheaper than Uber.

Really? I live in Houston and Ubers are consistently cheaper than taxis here...think I tried getting an Uber when I was in Nola and there weren't any

That stupid people don't want to be held accountable for paying a price they agreed four separate times to pay?
Coddling stupid people is the cool thing to do nowadays.

At least in Houston, it's not even fair...

Uber is
-cheaper
-more convenient
-quicker
-more professional/less sketchy drivers and cars

So of that $443 charge, what does the driver get?

what justification does uber have for this? gas suddenly quintuple in price after the concert?

Ever notice how flights are more expensive on certain days? Crazy concept I know.

Well I can certainly see why an admitted cab driver would want to coddle aloof, ignorant potential customers who think nothing of a $100 cab ride.

Well, then these people should've called a taxi.

Uber isn't the only service available.

This.

For that $$, I'd have rented a private car for the night.

I was catching a car at the Seattle airport this week and the person in front of me got a black car from Seattle to Southern Oregon - $1,250.

taxi services do this as well? oh yeah, they're not allowed to by law.

You are right, they can't adjust based on supply or demand and the result is that very few people get rides.

Just like nobody can get gas after a hurricane. It doesn't benefit the business to offer the product so they don't.

I'm no uber fan but this is about letting the free market operate.

Does uber not tell you up front the price? I feel like it says how much it will cost per mile and minute. .. seems like she just didn't look and might be bad at math.

Never used uber... could be completely wrong

The problem isn't that she didn't know the cost before getting in the cab.

But that she traveled by Über to go there and was "trapped" in using it to go back.

You start a thread thinking you're going to bash Uber, people call the woman out in the article for what she is, an idiot, the thread isn't going how you thought it would so now you resort to bashing everybody

While I fricking hate surge pricing, Uber is pretty up front about it. Use your noodle woman.
