First you can't spell "ridiculous", and now you can't even grasp the concept of attracting out of state students to LSU.

Arkansas is getting a ton of good kids from the state of texas that get screwed out of the 10% rule. they've played A&M in dallas since the jerrydome opened, and it's paid great dividends for the university. football is at the doorstep of every university.

That's about as cut and dry as I can explain it

So what you're saying is, a football game played in Arlington, TX attracts students to go to LSU. Got it.

Please explain how this is the case without getting too emotional.

I don't get this board's widespread hatred of playing openers away from Tiger Stadium. Like, I get why some people are for and against it. I see each viewpoint's arguments but people here are so damn angry about it. DFW ain't too bad to me. It's like another bowl game.

This

I guess I see the viewpoint that they'd rather go to another schools campus than Jerry world, but I'd 100% rather a game in Dallas against Miami to start the year then play against Western Kentucky at Tiger Stadium.

And opening weekend being Labor day weekend always makes it a great time for a road trip.

Well, usually the universities that play these games buy up a lot of billboards and promote the university. look at bama. the university has grown exponentially since its big time success in football under saban. I don't see how you don't understand that this encourages kids that probably wouldn't even consider lsu to look into what we offer.

Obviously, first and foremost we play these games as a rsult of how we budget the athletic department. But we're also expanding the LSU brand in both athletics and academics.

is that better?

Exactly. This helps spread the LSU brand name in areas other than just football. I know before the TCU game, Alexander met with DFW high school counselors.

The past few years, we've gotten 3-4 Valedictorians/Salutatorians out of the DFW metro. That's saying a lot when ~90+% of them are heading somewhere in Texas (UT, A&M, SMU, TCU, etc), ~5-6% going to highly regarded private college, and 4-5% going to a flagship university in other states (LSU, OU, UA, etc)

We play on national television almost every Saturday. How is that not enough to promote the school? How will playing a neutral site game make a difference?

You think a kid from DFW who has zero ties to LSU will travel to Arlington and just hang out or God forbid purchase an overpriced ticket? Most likely not.

Look I understand you are trying to portray a positive outcome for LSU playing in Dallas, and I respect that. But I just disagree with your premise about the academic stuff.

And yes I misspelled ridiculous. Oops.

A lot of students look at factors like football, greek life, and party scene when deciding where to go to school. It can't hurt to get more exposure. I've been to the orange bowl over 10 times just to see random teams play. I'm sure others have done this as well.

No one is saying kids are buying up rows of tickets to watch the game, but when they see a shitload of promotions right around the time kids are looking to apply to universities, they're going to give LSU a hard look.

i'm not "trying" to portray it; I know there's plenty of positive coming from these games.

That's cool, we can agree to disagree. Just look at what GeorgeReymond posed above. It's literally proof LSU is trying to expand its brand in Dallas both athletically and academically. it couldn't possibly be portrayed with any more clarity.

Well, it's a word you'd probably have to spell in the fifth grade

Jerryworld is just not a college game day atmosphere. Last year LSU fans were lined up waitng to get in to the parking lots which stayed closed til about 2:00. Many started grilling on the side of the road.....

Example 1:
I have a friend who goes to LSU from DFW. She had no prior connection to LSU or Louisiana before going to school here. Her dad went to a private university & mom went to Penn State.

Well, her dad is on the board for the Cotton Bowl. She attended her first LSU game when we played in the Cotton Bowl in 2011. In a suite, some LSU fans convinced her and her parents on why to attend LSU over TCU.

It definitely happens

Nice. As much as I hate neutral site games, Jerry's World is a pretty good place to watch a CFB game. NFL stadium rules need to go however.

Potential recruiting implications for this one too with the "FL faithful". Be nice to terminate The U mystique.

Would love to play UM again. I'd have more fun with my college friends in New Orleans Friday night and at my house on gameday, but I like going to the season openers in Arlington more than most people on here. Crazy it will have been that many years since the Peach Bowl.

I hear ya, but there's not a chance in hell anyone would agree to play LSU in New Orleans. I don't blame them

Seriously, frick Verge Ausberry for scheduling these shite neutral site games instead of home and homes. A huge middle finger to season ticket holders.

USC
Oklahoma
Miami
Notre Dame
michigan
Alabama
UGA
Virginia Tech
Tennessee
BYU
Ole miss
Arkansas
A&M
UCLA
Wisconsin
Arizona State

These are just a few schools that now have neutral site games on an annual basis fort he foreseeable future. No one likes it, but athletic departments just want more $$$.

It sucks, it really does. but at least we get to play in arguably the nicest sporting venue in the country against a national power

For sure. I meant they fly from Miami to New Orleans for Friday night and we drive in to Baton Rouge for the game Saturday.
