So we've come to a conclusion that their might be 1 with a similar agreement to us who just started doing it? That 1 is the richest program by far

They can afford to do it. Eventually it will hurt LSU athletics.

Ohio State gives money back to their University. Florida has given back to theirs. But you also don't know which athletic foundations are giving back to their universities and I'd imagine the percentage that are doing so is pretty high. It's yet another task to untangle the athletic departments and their respective athletic foundations.

In the 2011-2012 year, there were only 23 profitable athletic departments out of 228 according to USA Today (including subsidies btw).

So I don't think the % would be very high

Only 11 ADs took less than $1.5 million. ULL took $7.8. It is pretty impressive company for LSU to be in when comparing universities. LSU gave back $8.2 million in 2012.

Right. Our state's economy sucks. LSU's endowment isn't anywhere near the scale of the flagship universities of a lot of other states. Couple that with the spending cuts and LSU is absolutely at a disadvantage. This only serves to underscore the point that the AD should be generating as much revenue as possible for the local and state economies.

or they should keep doing what they are doing to make a profit when so few other programs are able to.

For some reason you're assuming that the school or the local economy doesn't benefit from out of state recruiting.

Again a lot of that is due to how the athletic department and the athletic foundations share money/facilities/donations/etc. It's an apple to oranges comparison and just looking at the USA Today report doesn't tell the whole story and it never has.

Same old tune. You're only looking at half of the story.

The local economy absolutely does not benefit from out of state recruiting when we give scholarships to either in-state kids (TOPS) or out of state kids who do not reside in Louisiana after graduation.

You can't be serious? The local economy doesn't benefit when foreign money comes into the city even if it is for a few just a few years?

Those same people don't come back with their money and pump it into BR on game days? Hotels? Donations? Apparel?

Attracting out of state talent is crucial for Louisiana's future. Expanding LSU's brand and exposure is a positive for the state instead of playing ULM. If Louisiana wants the tax money, create one in new Orleans

Losing a potential local and state tax payer that other tax payers have invested in offsets the gains of four years of expenditures in one. If our tax base is paying to educate the tax base of another state then its absolutely a net negative. You can't argue that any other way.

So far you have proved to be well out of your depth so I will end this fruitless conversation here.

I never argued that way. I literally argued the opposite. However, out of state kids pay higher tuition for that reason. The goal is to get the students to stay and create a brain gain.

I'm one of those Louisiana Tops kids who left the state. I also know many out of state students who made Louisiana their home after college.

Interesting Read

You're the man. I hope one day to learn these accounting tricks you speak of.
