As hard as it is, put yourself in their shoes and think what that would be like. They show up and are trying to get kids into school and TO a school daily, find place to live, learn English? Checking eligibility rules in that case is nowhere on their radar
It's the schools job to determine eligibility. Were the officials at Episcopal just trying to learn English 4 years ago?

Yeah, like Episcopal hasn't had fricking U-High or Parkview in their district before. U-High was in their district for about 30 years before the last realignment and Parkview was in their district back in my HS days playing for the Knights.
apparently you aren't in tune with the current sentiments at your alma mater regarding these two

What, them not wanting to play U-High in non-district for football?
District is district, as you have little control over who is in there with you.
Non-district, though, I see where they'd be coming from. Our coach used to schedule Newman during the Peyton Manning era, Notre Dame of Crowley, and other good 1A and 2A teams for non-district. We typically got our asses beaten in those games and then would have to play those exact same teams in the playoffs again.

Normally this might piss me off, but anything that is a potential death blow to the LHSAA is kind of funny to me.

Notre Dame of Crowley,
what years?

93-94, IIRC.
Like I said, this was during my playing days, which was 20 years ago.

They go to U-High
Happy he gets to play. Deserves it.
Privates will be splitting very soon, very very soon.

Dubya you do realize a lot of their brethren are upset with E right now.......

Yeah... The bill on Jindal's desk now has merit, but was not publicized by E the way it should have been. Should have been less focused on Clement, more on LHSAA flaws. Other bill about Superdome is really poor publicity for E... and needs to be done away with.
I know Clement personally which is why I'm happy however the process has not been really "positive" for anyone else, I guess you could say

His father sacrificed his life so his son could enjoy the freedom and opportunity of America. And his son has done that by becoming a great student and a tremendous private school in which he got a free education. His senior year of football doesn't mean shite in regards to anything

quote:my thing is, if you just frame the debate in terms of clement, people might actually think he should play after hearing his story. it takes message board posters like me and choup. to tell the world that no one else's 19 year olds are allowed to play.
more on LHSAA flaws.
you can't really switch this debate over to the LHSAA's flaws bc the relevant rule is cut and dried. 99.9% of people probably believe there should be some sort of age limit, and 99.9% believe that the competition should be inherently fair.
the LHSAA shouldn't have to publicize that they don't want men who are too old playing high school sports. it should be obvious.
threatening to take football out of the superdome screamed extortion to me, and idk who would have supported it, but a subset of people who oppose the split would have gladly allowed clement to play in exchange for ending that.
but let's face it. he's not a backup strong safety on Mount Hermon. He ran for 30+ touchdowns on a 10-0 team, he's a badass soccer player, and his backers have openly admitted that he's looking to get a college scholarship out of this controversy

BUT...and this is a Jennifer Lopez BUT...The current rule is not fair. The rule should be the calendar year, not what it is now. The rule now says you can't turn 19 before September 1st. So there are a TON of kids that are 19 their senior years. I was not a hold back. I turned 18 3 weeks before I graduated high school. Meanwhile there were kids that turned 18 the 2nd week of their JUNIOR YEAR that are completely eligible to not only play that year, but their senior year. That's not inherently fair at all.

He can go to a prep school. End of conversation. He isn't being screwed out of a scholarship like people might lead you to believe. I also bet he could take summer school and graduate high school and be in a college in the fall.

This is pretty embarrassing for my high school. Wtf are they doing

Then he'll get a scholarship based on his play as a junior.
This doesn't make any sense. Just looks like a poorly conceived law.

The current rule is not fair
the definition of fair is that it applies equally to all students... it doesn't know that you for example didn't hold back.
maybe you would suggest making the rule 18 before september 1st, but no matter when it is, some kids are gonna get screwed

I don't understand why they didn't have him take summer classes all along. He should have graduated this year.
Posted on 5/23/14 at 6:42 pm to GhostofJackson
I didn't read this whole thread but just to clarify what I know, he played 8th grade ball as an 8th grader, not varsity.......as a kid who turned freaking 15 the summer prior!! My oldest played against him. As for his situation, if he is allowed to play I hope Keiland Williams starts a riot. He had to go to Hargrave as a senior. I don't care what their personal childhood situation was. Too old is too old.

Most seniors in HS are 17 the fall of their senior year....
