Those were the good old days. State Trooper (I think) dressed as Mike repelling from the roof.

The Neltner tip-in game was probably the loudest I've ever been to.

Xavier from a few years ago is up there too

The LSU/Kentuky game 1977 or 78. Kyle Macy was their KY's point guard with the two 6-10 twin towers of Kentucky. All our starters fouled out and the bench players hung on for dear life and won the game. Kentucky was ranked #1 at the time

Lots of great ones, but this was the biggest single eruption I remember.

Duke 1992 was big time as well. I would argue that Coach K created hack-a-Shaq that game. Unfortunately, Shaq didn't make too many down the stretch.

+1

I was there for the Loyola-Merrymount game as well but I would put T's selections above it. I would actually rank Duke #1 and Arizona #2.

I was there for this game and several of the Shaq and Chris Jackson games. Tiger basketball enthusiasm was through the roof during these years (85-90) I remember having to camp out overnight in line just to get student tickets to some of the games. As a measure of the enthusiasm for Tiger basketball the game against Georgtown in the dome...62,000 strong.

Does the student section in the PMAC still read the newspaper when the visiting team is being introduced or has that tradition died?

Alive, but not strong. I chuckled last night when I saw about 10 students doing it.

THIS...Jordy was one of the guys who came off of the bench. The next day the Morning Advocate sports section headline was simply the last names of the 5 bench players that 'hung on for dear life'.

Nothing compares to the Dale Brown years, sorry youngsters

You have no idea what you missed, sorry

AMEN!

The Assembly Center was LOUD and intimidating back then just like Tiger Stadium. Plus we were thought of as adults then and could legally consume adult beverages on campus. Glad I was there then.

You cannot overlook 1989 UNLV, the last second 3 pointer by Blanton to win it. I was student in the student section for that one and its gotta rank right up there. An awesome game.

Dick Vital (or however you spell it) was mixed in with the student section prior to the game ... that was funny.

Jackson and Shaq were awesome to see ...

Do you remember a time when Daddy Dale would grab the mic during the game from the announcer and say "Please do NOT throw things onto the court" ...

This was the loudest I can remember. The Memphis State upset was a great one . How about the 1st time we had won the SEC title in many years. They let the flag down too early and C.M. Newton was pissed at Daddy Dale. The young crowd has no idea how how the Deaf Dome was back in the late 70s through early 90s.

Johnson is a good coach but we need a snake oil salesman (someone with an out-going personality - e.g.- the DALE BROWN type) That's the type person people around here can relate to. That's the type person that will bring the magic back.

Ole Miss 1981 when LSU clinched the SEC. My ears rang for two days. That was the best year ever for LSU basketball.

Rudy Maclin, Greg Cook, Howard Carter, Leonard Mitchel, Ethan Martin and super sub Willy Sims.

I'm thinking the 79 Kentucky game where all five starters fouled out in regulation and we beat them in OT with all the backups playing.

from 1978 to 1981 the games were the loudest and biggest. Half of the pmac was the student section so you had 7500 students at a game. it was crazy loud. some of the games i remember are 1979 alabama game to win the sec for first time in years. any kentucky game during that time. anytime dewayne "the astronaut" scayles slamed one of his tomahawk dunks the student section went nuts.

2005 Alabama
2006 Kentucky (still wear one of the tshirts they gave out that game)

If we can add the women too, I remember the game against Baylor when they came in as defending national champs being pretty insane. We stomped them and then Kim Mulkey got all pissed at Pokey as they shook hands after the game.
