Martinique is great, not sure if I'd go with that as a first date though, its pretty nice. My buddy uses Baru as his go-to place every time, I think its a good move. He also strikes out a lot though, so IDK. ETA: I preface this with (imo) it depends on how old you are. If you're in your 30s its probably fine, but I wouldn't go that fancy at 23.

We go to some quick places like Popeye's and Subway

But for sit down lunch...I discovered a really solid chinese place yesterday. It's on the corner of 38th and Williams a little north of I-10 called Little Chinatown

We got some potstickers and I got a wonton noodle soup with roasted duck. My friend got the curry beef and it looked and smelled great as well.

Here are some reviews on yelp

As for other lunch spots we usually hit up Mr. Ed's, Sun Ray Grill, Kenner Seafood, and I've been to Ristorante da Piero once for lunch. That place takes a little long for lunch though IMO.

Started a thread on this place about 2-3 months ago. Very good authentic Chinese.
Cafe Taormina on Williams past Vintage has pretty good sandwiches. I also get the carne asada in the back of Celina's grocery on Williams.

Definitely the best I've tried since I've been living here. Wish I would have caught your thread.

I went there once for lunch and got an eggplant sandwich. No complaints about the food, I just wish that the lunch menu wasn't so heavy on the sandwiches. I was hoping for some smaller servings of their dinner portions.

The sign outside says best pizza in town FWIW

It's right next to French Press Coffee where I went yesterday before lunch

I'll try them out for pizza one of these days

My FAVORITE hole in the wall restaurant. Always a great meal, always a great time! The owner bought my table a few shots of whiskey before i deployed to afghanistan. Super nice guy!

Thanks for all the suggestions. So far Martinque on the patio looks the most appealing. This isn't a first date in a traditional sense. We meet during Mardi Gras through a mutual friend and hung out again for St. Paddy's day and now talk daily. So it won't be so much about getting to know each other but rather just having a good time. This will be the first time we get together that isn't based around boose and beads. It will be our first diner date technically. I don't live in New Orleans and she does and wanna take her somewhere decent. So port o call isn't going to make the short list this time.

At Martinque are jeans and and a nice button up polo acceptable. Our plans are to go meet up with friends afterwards and go out so I don't feel like getting to dressed up. Someone was wonder our age we are both in our upper 20's.

Thanks again for the advice. If anyone can come up with anything else let me know.

Really good choice. In the spring and fall it is a great place for patio dining.

Yes

French press is solid, Fat Greg's has good pizza but nothing spectacular and definitely not the best in the city.

They moved several years ago. Are you sure you are not thinking of the old building?
Either way, I never thought all that much of the place.
