British media are hyperventilating over this today.

Article is pay but a snippet:

quote:

Washington is reviewing US diplomatic support for the UK’s claim to the Falkland Islands (Malvinas), which have long been disputed with Argentina. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer initially refused to join the US-Israeli war on Iran, although the UK later allowed “defensive missions” from its bases in the region.

Britain also strongly opposed weapons sales to Argentina but we forced them through against their expressed wishes.

Britain and Europe are unreliable, unhelpful countries that are parasites leaching off the protection that we provide. Their values and ours on critical issues like defense (they want ours so they don’t have to have theirs), tariffs (they have them but don’t want us to have them), freedom of speech (they don’t believe in it), borders (they want open), China (they are their bitch and won’t support us over them), democracy (they nullify results they don’t like and ban/hinder people and parties they don’t like), lgbtq+ (they want to push it on your children), censorship (they believe in it), energy (they think it’s bad), and climate (they want to run every aspect of your life) are incompatible.

The sooner we fracture our ties to Britain and Europe the better. Drop the millstone that they are. The Pacific is where our focus and resources need to be.

Hopefully recent events and actions like above really help snowball the process.

Milei is our ally. Starmer is not. Las Malvinas por favor!

My Heroine, Maggie Thatcher, is rolling in her grave.

The Falkland Islands belong to Britain.

No more Harrier Jets or Maggie Thatcher.

I’m liking their chances at this point.

I think The Iron Lady would be more furious at what's become of her homeland.

Nothing is done yet. And Argentina's military is in a worse state than any European military, especially from a spending perspective.

She had more balls than that entire country has collectively now.

They either need to be an ally or don’t. If they don’t, shut the frick up.

Milei might be the ally of certain US factions, but I'm failing to see the benefit of trading Atlanticism for something where Argentina would be relevant geopolitically.

Trump wants to make sure Britain doesn't give up Diego Garcia - pressure on those idiots to keep it.

Makes no sense for the Falklands to belong to Britain anyway.

Your heroine wouldn’t recognize her country today.

And she’s rolling over in her grave because of Britain’s weak, feckless, awful leaders.

I’d like to hear the case for Britain keeping this colony. Surely there’s no economic or military benefit to them?

The islands were not inhabited when the Europeans founded the first forts on the islands. The Argentines have never been able to enforce their rule over the islands for any long period of time, as far as I remember. I'm so skeptical of Argentine force projection, given their lack of investment in military hardware, that even several decades of US funding could help them.

The UK has been conquered. It’s not coming back. We have more in common with Argentina now.

There is some possible remote benefit, say for example, if some reserves are found in its waters. And there is a possibility that the UK could transfer over control to Argentina without war, but the UK claim to the region is much stronger than Argentina's claim.

The Falkland Islands belong to Britain.

Well, maybe Britain should have thought of that when they let their global fleet shrink to smaller than the size of the task force during the Falklands war. And, only 1/3 of the destroyers at least (2) are deployable.
quote:

The Falklands War involved a large British naval task force, including two aircraft carriers, 15 frigates, six destroyers, and six submarines, while the current (ENTIRE) UK Navy has significantly fewer ships, with only two aircraft carriers, 11 frigates, six destroyers, and 10 submarines.

Here yesterday

Britain, France, and Germany, the classic world powers, are thoroughly cuckolded to whichever top five power seeks the task. If Argentina made another play for the Falklands, Britain would be humiliated. Let's keep it real.

The British navy being so weak is kinda hilarious after centuries of ruling the waves.

The British being a bad ally has put them in the spot that we can encourage turning over the falklands.

If they had helped when asked this doesn’t happen to them. They need to learn their place in the world, they aren’t a super power anymore. Just a Muslim country now
