WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump’s acting attorney general on Thursday signed an order reclassifying state-licensed medical marijuana as a less-dangerous drug, a major policy shift long sought by advocates who said cannabis should never have been treated like heroin by the federal government.

The order signed by Todd Blanche does not legalize marijuana for medical or recreational use under federal law. But it does change the way it’s regulated, shifting licensed medical marijuana from Schedule I — reserved for drugs without medical use and with high potential for abuse — to the less strictly regulated Schedule III. It also gives licensed medical marijuana operators a major tax break and eases some barriers to researching cannabis.

The Trump administration also said it was jump-starting the process for reclassifying marijuana more broadly, setting a hearing to begin in late June.

This is dumb, it should be unscheduled. Alcohol is 100x more damaging.

Trump continues to deliver.

Woke up to federal workforce unemployment cries and reclass of marijuana.

Going to be a nice day.

Calm down, Cheech. I understand you like pot but we don't need to be hyperbolic. I don't think long term psychosis is "less damaging" than liver disease. I'd say they are about equal in terms of long term damage.

I would rather it be unscheduled, but this is certainly a step in the right direction.

Good for research and state distributors, but stoners won't care about this until it's legalized nationally.

Okay boomer, as if alcoholism does not cause mental health issues. No drug when abused is "safe" but when comparing alcohol and marijuana use long term effects on the human body, there is a clear winner.

I say why not enjoy both!

Yeah…having weed and the smell of weed everywhere has been awesome when visiting major cities.

Definitely making America great!

Upwards of 30% of the nation’s population uses marijuana. Over 60% has tried it. Making criminals out of all of them and allowing “I smell weed” as an end around the 4th, 5th, and 6th amendments was a massive mistake it has taken far too long to correct.

There are nuisance laws that could be used to regulate cigarette smoke and marijuana smoke in public places, especially doorways. Cities have just chosen not to enforce them.

Which is why it shouldn't be totally unregulated. However, there is likely a lot of medical use's that the government won't even study. That needs to change.

Well, other than the fact that “long term” psychosis won’t kill you and “long term” liver disease will.

You know, California and other major leftist cities have legalized weed and drugs. I wouldn't brag about long term psychosis as being a positive. The results speak for themselves.

Did you get this from the Anheiser-Bush Research Institute?

Even if true, by the numbers, liver diseases alone would far outpace deaths or other problems arising from any vague 'psychosis'

Then of course, you have kidney diseases, central nervous system damage, skin conditions, domestic violence, etc.

Also, drunks have a strangle hold on KILLING OTHER PEOPLE WITH THEIR CARS, etc. Not so much with the pot-heads.

Okay boomer

WHy am I a boomer? Because i recognize that pot isn't this magical drug that is great and has no downside? The problem with you militant pot enthusiasts, is you are not honest. You can't admit that pot is harmful. Just because Alcohol is legal and pot is not, doesn't take away from the fact that BOTH are harmful to you.
