What is the best metal song of all time?

I won’t be the genre police, so define “metal” how you want.
For what I consider the true metal bands, I think Symphony of Destruction by Megadeth is the best.
You take a mortal man
And put him in control
Watch him become god

Some might say Thin Lizzy doesn't qualify, but this was badass.

Symphony of Destruction by Megadeth may well be your favorite, and I wouldn't debate that. But "best" is so utterly subjective to a million parameters as to be a fool's errand to even try.

Questions like these are impossible to answer, but I’ll throw this one out there as being as good of a candidate as any…

The answer is Metallica - One.
Symphony of Destruction is close to perfect.
Number of the Beast is...perfect.

Difficult question... I think there are a number of Metallica songs that could be up for it, Megadeth Symphony is a contender, and I'll throw in the likes of Ace of Spades into the mix. Hell, what about Walk by Pantera

Admittedly, not a metal guy.. but this was the one that popped into my head immediately upon reading the thread title.. at least by my definition of metal..

As someone else said, there is no correct answer
However, disagree w Symphony of Destruction in favor of Hangar 18 if we're talking Megadeth. Honestly, Megadeth doesn't work here because the vocals are so terrible. It at least needs some real singing. That's why I wouldn't suggest Pantera as their vocals are too harsh without reprieve.
Thin Lizzy - just not metal. I wouldn't put Dream Theater here and they have some great "metal" songs.
For a Metallica contribution - Master of Puppets
Hallowed Be Thy Name is a great entry
Rainbow in the Dark or Holy Diver also good
A Killswitch Engage song like In Due Time also hits well if some screaming is allowed.
No real answer but I love the discussion

Well no shite. This is a discussion board. I’m just giving my opinion. There’s no “best” of anything, especially in music.
It’s just a topic to discuss.

I love Mustaine’s vocals. Disagree there.
Agree on Pantera. I love them, but I can only listen in small doses as the vocals wear on me.

That isn’t even the best Megadeth song. Correct answer is Holy Wars. A metal masterpiece

I would pick every song off Rust in Peace, except Dawn Patrol of course, over Symphony of Destruction. I like that song too but RIP is an all time classic.

My vote would have to go to Black Sabbath N.I.B.
