Zion extension = DQ off the bench in 2026-27.
Probably Fears too.
Also don’t be surprised if Pels use Herb, Poole expiring contract & future pick (s) to hunt major upgrades via trade (s).

Somebody explain trading our 1st when we suck to get DQ only to have him ride the bench

Dealing future 1sts to win now

I don't want to keep Zion. But if we did, he's not a PF and should keep transitioning to more of a wing role (including shooting 4+ 3pt per game). He's just not effective as a "big" and it's making our 3-wing line-up clunky.

All that said, I like Queen off the bench for at least another year. He needs serious work on his conditioning, and to find the best role for himself. Let him feast against 2nd units, and build up his confidence. I know he's an older rookie, but he's still raw and needs to be developed. Also, I think Missi is poised for a big year next season. He is growing, and a super hard worker. I don't think you can start the two of them together, so staggering them seems like a solid plan..

Its the worst possible scenario, so ofcourse it's what Dumars is gonna do.

Fire JT, Hire Ham, extend Zion, then trade Poole and Herb and multiple firsts to upgrade this sorry arse roster.

Gayle likes him. Possibly put the Loomis “Untouchable” tag on him.

On one hand, 30-35 per year is about what he's worth nowadays. But on the other hand, you can never trust him to stay healthy while maximizing his production/impact.

Looks like they are going to gamble on him and I don't really have any interests anymore especially knowing their next coaching selection will probably anchor the team just as much for the foreseeable future.

Either way, I'm not really surprised.

If dj can turn queen and his conditioning and post defense into something mediocre, we can make some noise with him on the bench.

We have 4 young guys who need to show immense growth in the next year.

Missi - can he be a true anchor defensively for 25+mpg?
Fears - can he be a 30mpg combo guard who shoots and facilitates well enough?
Matkovich - can he be a 3&D big man?
Queen - can his conditioning be good enough to warrant 20+ mpg as a backup 4 and 5 depending on the lineup?

Poole needs to be moved this off-season.
Murray needs to be moved in a year (for year 3 fears to start).

Jones and Murphy need to be moved to build up assets even though I hate to do it to keep zion.

Bey needs to be retained or traded, he's got value it appears right now. Is he a true 3 or a small ball 4?

I don’t have the energy. If this team is gonna extend Zion and keep him in the starting lineup, I might need to find a different team to keep up with instead. Maybe LSU MBB or LSU baseball, idk.

So they throw away a chance at a great player in the next draft for Queen, only to keep Queen on the bench. This is a small market team, no great player on a different team wants to play for. You build through the draft and develop. Now they wanna use draft capital again to move off Poole. I’d rather use draft capital to move off Zion if they giving up draft picks.

This team has no #1 NBA level player. They are doing everything to keep it that way.

2 games left and right now this team has only 2 players with atleast 100 threes made. 80 games played and Zion still has one 3 pointer made. Now I gotta read rumors of an extension….

I could see them trading for Gobert in a 3 team trade with Giannis to MIN. People will be mad about it, but he would bring their rebounding and rim protection from a major weakness to a major strength. The kind of desperation move to be relevant and raise the floor of the team to be competent- that Weaver/Dumars would try.

Bucks get: McDaniels, Beringer, one of Naz/Randle, Poole and Hawkins expiring, 2027 NOP/MIL 1st

Wolves get: Giannis, Turner

Pels get: Gobert, DiVincenzo

Gobert/ Missi/ DeAndre
Zion/ Queen/ Karlo
Bey/ Herb/ Peavy
Trey/ Donte/ Bryce
Murray/ Fears

Championship

These are the moves you get with an incompetent owner. It takes a potential catastrophe to get everyone to agree, but many of you will go back to sunshine pumping similar to the unprotected 1st fiasco.

Move this team.

$30 - $35 million is a pay cut and wouldn't be so bad with an increasing cap and some cheaper guys cheaper but growing role guys like Queen and Fears. But I dont think Zion bites on that so this could all just be posturing ("we tried in good faith to offer Zion an aggressive amount of value but he wants to play this out").

Doesn't Zion have two years remaining on his deal? Regardless of your opinion on if he deserves a new deal or not, signing one this offseason is pointless.
