The Average Tax Refund is Up $351, Still Below the “Extra $1,000” Projected by Trump

So far the IRS has processed 87.5 million returns for TY25.
At least as of March 27, it has paid out nearly $63 million in refunds. The average amount returned: $3,521. That’s up $351 (or 11.1%) from the same period last year, but still well below the average $1,000 boost that the US Treasury projected.
Regardless, I don’t understand why the government keeps an extra $63 million only to return to tax filers at the end of the year. The money and admin costs of returning, in addition to this essentially being an interest-free loan to the Government, make this a bad move all around.

Seems like a dumb statistic. If you want a larger return, claim fewer deductions at the time of withholding. That doesn't change your tax burden, but you will get a larger return.
Has the overall tax burden changed in the last 24 months? I'd be surprised if it has.

Refunds mean absolutely nothing. It's how much you had to pay in taxes for the year that matters.

I bet some people did get $1,000 more.
I knew I wasn't going to. No tips or overtime, but I still voted for it.

First time paying taxes?

Owed $2700. Was within my acceptable limits either side of zero.
Overall effective tax rate was about the same as last few years.

We blew that extra $351 in gas last month not to mention the additional $1B a day we are spending on Israel’s pet project War. If this is MAGA, not sure I want to be a part of it.

63 million / 3500 = only ~18,000 people. The math isn’t mathing

Ive never understood why people want a tax refund. That just means you gave the government a interest free loan. I just wrote the gov a check as I do every year.

They don't take your money. People do not know how to adjust their W2 and dependents to break even or owe. This is the user's fault.

It's not "the government". It's people that just guess on their W-4 for withholding.. and when it's excessive... they just leave it. Also, some people inexplicably max out their withholding for a "bonus" at tax filing time.
Plus people can send in their estimates and then have a casualty loss or some other loss.
Then there is the credits like the "clean vehicle credit" was.
And then there is the """"""earned""""""" income credit.

Where was your concern when the senile old crook Brandon was allegedly President?
You're one more idiot I would block if this site had that function.

Getting a "tax refund" means you're a moron who doesn't know how to fill out withholding forms.

Got him now?
Your OP is inaccurate if you talk to a tax preparer.
No tax on SS, SS not counted as income and higher deductibles in general. No Obama care nonsense.
Credits all around that were formatted under EIC.
