I keep seeing the argument of “he’s never been to a final 4” as well as “he’s not an elite coach”.

So I ask the Anti-Pear group, can you give a list of elite coaches we could’ve had a chance at hiring?

Even at that it doesn't mean he can never get there.

Especially with the resources he'll have available to him now that won't have to be slid underneath the table.

To go further. Give me a list of elite coaches that would come here for $4mm a year.

The only 2 coaches that made it to the Sweet 16 this year who make less are Rick Pitino (St. Johns) and Ben McCollum (Iowa). I doubt there's a single Final 4 coach that would answer the phone for less than $6.5mm.

I don't claim to be anti-pear; I am very fond of tPear. LSU bball will certainly be more relevant than it has been the last 4 years, but it's not like I think he's going to turn us into a powerhouse. Maybe that makes me anti-pear in some people's minds, or maybe it makes me realistic.

In my view, the majority of the excitement is a result of a few things: McMahon tenure sucked and it's a big frick you to the national media guys like Dicky V, Pat Forde, and Jay Bilas (which I also love). Anyone thinking we are natty bound just because he's back is delusional and unrealistic based on the results the first time around. Hope I'm proven wrong in time

You can’t reason with them they are so stuck on hating Wade for a number of reasons

All you do is laugh at them at this point

literally nobody does this

LSU fans really support him because he truly felt like he was all in on the culture of LSU and Louisiana and feel he was wrongly fired

Not a single person I know or has seen thinks he’s the greatest coach in college basketball but that he can can build a winning program here

I feel like the only thing an LSU fan should have against Will Wade is that he was so sloppy on the phone. That is just fricking dumb of Wade. Other than that though, he wasn't doing anything differently than everyone else was doing and will continue to do.

I'm not Anti-Pear and I'm extremely excited to have him back in P&G. He will, at the very least, bring relevance back to program and put a good product on the floor. He is a polarizing figure and has tremendous upside. But I guess I'm in the group that is not over-reacting and pretending he is the second coming of John Wooden.

There is definitely room for him to grow as a coach, especially in-game and schematics. He is relatively young so I have no doubt he will continuously get better all around. I'm just not penciling us in to the Final Four next year.

FWIW, I hope he does become the greatest college basketball coach to ever live.

Will Wade fans don’t even think this, lol.

Fans want Wade because he got to the NCAA tournament more consistently than any other coach in LSU basketball’s history not named Dale Brown.

No one is expecting championships or even Final Fours. We just want to be able to be in the tournament each year and then see what happens because anything can happen once you are in the tournament.

Thread on page 1 discussing how LSU could win a natty in basketball and football this year now that Wade is back.

First of all absolutely no one thinks we will be natty bound next year. But will wade had LSU as a top tier sec team while he was here. He was one player away from being there I can guarantee you that. We will be competitive and we will be in the big dance more times than not that’s all that we care about.

Yes but also its due to many fans not mentally "breaking up" with Wade. He was the first love that moved to another town. Sure we tried to move on and dated someone else but we always kept our fondness for the one that got away. Now he's coming back to town so we dump the placeholder, who was a very nice guy, for the bad boy we loved all along.

This might the gayest thing I have ever written about another man

I've also asked them REPEATEDLY to name 10 current HC with a better resume' than Wade during their first 12 years as a HC.

NOTHING but crickets.

I believe it will take a couple years to really be able to compete near the top of the SEC and to make the tourney.
CWW had an NBA caliber talent on each of his teams and sometimes 2, and the SEC was not as strong when CWW was here. The SEC has become an incredible MBB conference.
But even with that getting to the Sweet 16 is a major feat and he did that. Getting to the Sweet 16 you still have to go thru some really good teams regardless if your conference was a little soft that year.
The coaches that LSU maybe would've wanted are in the tourney still or just exited and time was of the essence.
None of the coaches at these schools would've thought about coming to LSU. They are in a good place, why would they leave?

Yeah a thread from a moron. That’s no where near the consensus. But to say it’s impossible is ignorance

McMahon was a good coach but not a great evaluator of talent especially the kind you need to compete in the SEC. It was one of his biggest weaknesses.

Wade is a good coach but a great evaluator of talent especially the kind you need to compete in the SEC. And he will now have the resources to go get that talent. He is young and can grow and develop as a coach so he may not be elite now but there’s nothing that says he can’t be in the future.
