The Turd Hammer

quote:

There’s very little we know for certain about Toyota’s forthcoming Raptor competitor. We know the name: TRD Hammer. We know it will “have 37s and be badass” because somebody familiar with the project told us so. And based on those two pieces of information, we’ve managed to connect a few more dots that led us to a critical detail: it’s going to be powered by a tweaked version of the Tundra’s hybrid V6.

Not a bad looking truck, but TRD Hammer? Turd Hammer? That sounds like something you’d need after a drunk night eating Taco Bell. Seriously, do they think these things through?

I’d still opt for the Raptor unless this is much cheaper. I don’t trust the reliability of a new tundra any more than the ford.

The Ram RHO, which is the Ram equivalent to the Raptor, looks really good and is much cheaper but also has a lame name. RHO doesn’t excite anyone.

I spent two weeks with a Ram 2500 gasburner recently.

It was basically new.

Quiet cab, terrible cold-engine performance (a rental so it probably had the cheapest gas they could find) very poor ergonomics, fair seats, really crappy ride and handling. Loved gasoline like I love bourbon.

They're cheaper for a reason.

Sounds like a pet name an Aggie would come up with for his penis.

Nothing better for an unreliable ticking time bomb of a power plant than to push more power through it.

Call it the ReTRD.

I'm generally pro-Toyota (we own two).

But I have to ask if the main engine bearing failures in the TTV6 are standard or optional for this new model?

It’ll be the first truck in history with recalls before it ever hits the lot

My 2003 Tacoma V6 manual would walk the dog on that overpriced piece of crap.

They are going back to the TRX next year but not sure if they are replacing the RHO name or just adding a higher option. But next years TRX top models are going to be close to 90k. So not really a cheaper option any more.

I have a new Tundra and love it so curious to see what these look like in person. The twin turbo hybrid motor is a beast honestly but curious what they will be doing to it for it to compete with the Raptor or TRX. Going to need some extra pop.

It looks a lot better than the Raptor

They should change the name and try and carve out a "Raptor, but for adults" niche

That's because it's made by Stellantis. Each comes from the factory with it's very own unique electrical issue that has never been seen before and is completely unfixable.

“Cannot recreate the issue” is a every CDJR tech’s favorite phrase.
