Florida bill against marrying your first cousin fails

And folks still make fun of WV, where it's actually illegal.
LINK
Florida is one of 18 states where marrying your first cousin is legal, a fact that surprises many residents and has sparked questions about why the practice remains permissible.
West Virginia, which is often joked about for cousin marriages, banned the practice in 1955, but Florida has yet to follow suit.

At least in those places, you can't marry your sister like you can in other places.

The list of states where it is still allowed is kind of surprising.

No thanks on me marrying anyone in my family tree. But I really don’t care about this.

The alternate view is “If you have to actually specify it in law, it has been a huge problem there before.”

Add a (Unless she’s hot) clause and it should get through.

That's fair.

Where do you think all of the "Florida Man" jokes come from?

should be able to see how close it has to be to cause defects, then not that
True story, 3 of the top 10 prettiest women I met when I moved to Dallas were my cousins, hadn't seen them since we were all kids. I saw them all at once at a wedding.
Of course, just knowing they were first cousins nixed any interest, but I could see they were very pretty.

Yeah, there was a case of a mom who had fraternal twins (boy and girl) and gave them up for adoption. They were adopted at infancy to different families. They met as strangers in college and fell in love. When they announced marriage the birth mother they never knew contacted them and told them they were siblings. Very sad. If I met a girl who was unknowlingly my twin sister I'd fall in love because she would have such a very high I.Q.

The closer the kin... the deeper it goes in.
