Who had worker shortage on their crawfish price hike bingo card?

ABBEVILLE - You may see some significant changes in crawfish prices this season. It's because some crawfish processing plants are dealing with worker shortages. "They simply cannot get their workers, and so some of the plants that normally get 100 to 135 workers have gotten zero," Commissioner of the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, Mike Strain, said.

If Benoit doesn't have any by early next month. He says he will not be able to operate his processing plant and will lose about 45% of his crawfish

At the right price crawfish farmers will get more workers.

Elections have consequences.

You are crazy if you think Iran closing the Strait of Hormuz wasn't going to make prices go up.

One day someone will just say it.................... We want to charge more early to see what people will pay. At the end of the day cars are still lining up.

Sounds like the price of live crawfish should be going down.

Agreed. Seems like bulk purchases of live crawfish by processing plants would be reduced; therefore, live crawfish would have less demand.

Though logic isn't the typical driver of crawfish prices...

Was $5.95 a lb for live in Metairie at Mardi Gras. Now it's $3.95 a lb. Seems about right for this time of year.

Are their workers here illegally? That would be the only reason they'd be afraid to show up to work. Why doesn't the company get some legal work visa workers from Mexico? Many agricultural companies do it the right way. This one seems to be doing it the wrong way, and admitting it.

Oh no. Now we'll have to drive to and buy straight from farmers and pay half as much.
