Has chain link fence gone extinct in neighborhoods?

The 70's, 80's and 90's sure had some terrible residential architecture.

Chain link fence belongs around facilities and prisons only.

Thank God we have started rectifying our mistakes

I still have xhainlink but yeah, pretty sure it was put up in the 80s. I'd have put up a privacy fence by now if I didn't like my neighbors but they're awesome so I'll save my money for now.

I see something similar up here but it is a tight chain link pattern and black. People use it for deer fencing.

They have been replaced by trashy front yard faux wrought iron fences.

Yep. No termite damage to a metal fence.

I grew up with a chain link fence so I like them. Makes you a little closer to your neighbors. My yard has a wooden privacy fence on just the sides I built. My backyard opens up to a large field where kids play and what not, so I don't want to infringe on that, but I also don't want the foot traffic of coming and going through my yard

Depends on your trailer-hood. I put up vinyl 21 years ago. 2005.

If I have a chain link fence, my neighbors might see me and want to meet me.

It’s white vinyl fencing everywhere around here. Lasts much longer than wood fences. Not as durable as chain link and have to clean it occasionally, but looks much better.

The people across the street from me just fenced their backyard (it had no fence at all and they have kids) and went with the black chain link. I thought I was gonna hate it and wondered why they didn't put up a privacy fence. Then I talked to the guy and he told me a couple of the quotes he got on privacy fences and the black chain link makes way more sense. It looks way better than the plain gray/galvanized look that I remember growing up with.

I loved the ones with the vinyl inserts - peak 1982. I have a little hideaway property I am going to put one on.

I would think all those wooden fences block any breeze? I don’t live next to anyone so I don’t know. My fencing is barb wire.

I just put up a cedar privacy fence, took down the chain link I put in 20 years ago. Just a personal preference

Some old homes (1920 to 1950) have chain link fences cemented into a chain wall and mostly on side / back yards. In the 60s people started putting them in front yards. The older ones built in the early 1900s are thicker and I’ve seen some that have zero wear as long as you paint them every 30 years or so with high heat aluminum paint. Those old ones are tight and solid.

Chain link fences died with the birth of HOAs.

You can't bang the "Ole Lady" in the backyard pool with chain link.

Gotta have that privacy board on board.

Yep, and does the OP know why it’s often called “hurricane fencing”?
