That’s higher than what we pay normally in EBR.
It’s all because of the new tax district set up around LSU.
Does anyone know where this tax goes and who spends it?

Checked out of Nola hotel during Mardi Gras and had more line items of taxes than rooms in hotel.
One for printer ink from all tax line items.

WTF could be the point of that? There doesn’t seem to be enough tax base in that locale to make a difference to a city the size of Baton Rouge

Probably to the state fund to support the poorer parts of the state.
Socialism at work.

That is the total sales tax rate for the LSU EDD (1% point added for the EDD), but I thought that started in October or at least was already effective in October 2025 (not sure when it actually started).

Going to find the new Arena where the LSU Fighting Will Wades will play their games in a few years.

Where does it go? Who spends it? On what?

They passed that last year. It goes to statue removal and building name change cost.

I would think that lawyer Charles Landry and developer John Engquist who have been quoted in newspaper articles in the past about the project would likely have answers to those types of questions.

Didn’t they say the arena would be all privately funded?

LSU was hellbent to annex into BR during the great St George revolt. Welp. Looks like that tab comes due, old boy.

Imagine taking 10% of every sales transaction in a city.
Governments are out of control.

Cleo Fields authored the bill. I doubt it does much for LSU.
There is supposed to be a board which the President of LSU is member. The other members allegedly have ties to construction or other businesses that could end being used for “development”. Those are ones who seem more likely to benefit.
The EDDs can create sub districts, and the LSU EDD Athletic Subdistrict is inside it which is supposed to be about the basketball arena if agreement ever done.
There were not supposed to be voters residing inside the district, but supposedly LSU’s has some which is part of a lawsuit filled against the district.
It sounds like a typical Louisiana and BR cluster right now.

When this passed I bet folks didn’t know the tax would be placed on LSU concessions.
I wonder if LSU tickets get taxed too as part of this EDD?
