Study: Young people want more "vulnerable men" in movies/TV, less "masculine stereotypes"

Sorry Jason Statham, but Gen Alpha (born 2010-2024/25) and Gen Z (born 1997-2012) are not looking for a Transporter.
The Center for Scholars & Storytellers (CSS) at UCLA has released the findings from its “Evolving Masculinity” study. The study surveyed 1,500 tweens, teens and young adults, ages 10-24, finding that these groups want to see boys and men on TV and in movies “moving away from isolation and other masculine stereotypes” and “towards vulnerability and connection.”

The CSS study was led by Yalda T. Uhls, founder and CEO of the center. Uhls and her team concluded that young people “are asking for a reimagining of how men show up in the lives of others,” as the study reads. “Whether it is a father, mentor, coach, or teacher, the message from the audience was the same.” Uhls and her team pointed to two TV examples — Heated Rivalry and The Pitt — as satisfying those depictions.

On the opposite end of the spectrum — Vin Diesel. Dominic Toretto may not have friends, he has family, but he would not be the father figure Gens Z and Alpha would gravitate toward.
“There’s not enough nuance or authenticity in the way that these men show the full range of their emotions,” Uhls told THR. “Young people are going to make fun of it or reject it.”

Gee, what a surprise, the testosterone deprived generations want touchy-feely man baby movie stars.

Hollywood should definitely, absolutely, 100% double down on the "more vulnerable men" and "less traditional masculinity" theme. i'm BEGGING them.

The liberals on this board answered this poll

Youths aged 10-24 aren’t watching tv and movies anyway. They’re watching reality tv/youtube/tiktok.
Secondly, would love to know the breakdown of the 1,500 kids they surveyed. My guess is a significant proportion, if not all, are from the LA area and come from households/schools/neighborhoods that are in the 1% of the most left in the country.

John Wick and SISU would disagree.

Isn’t this the exact opposite of every other study that’s been done on this issue lately?
It’s like that pollster that put out that Iowa poll that was clearly wrong just because they liked the narrative.

As someone who has taught high schoolers for the last 13 years in title 1 schools, the next time I hear a student use the word nuance will be the first, and the next time I hear them talk about the authenticity of a mans emotions in a movie or show will be the first.
And

Study was done at Berkeley, UMass, and Ann Arbor.

This is what makes me interested in the God of War series. Its an emotional father/son story but also Kratos still has that rage monster in him and will destroy everything in sight. Hopefully the show can pull that off as well as the games.

This is a pure influence mechanism to create the culture they want.
Its obviously not real, but they WANT it to be real, so they will try to create that reality.
When say media can be evil... this is what I mean. Progressives want to shape culture against the real. And they will incessantly do it. Invest in it. Etc. Doesn't matter if they lose money.

Sorry Jason Statham
Jason Statham is a highly bankable action star whose films have grossed nearly $2 billion worldwide.

I'm sure the questions weren't leading and interpreted a certain way.

Progressives want to shape culture against the real.
Progressivism was originally known as “the New Left” and embraced what’s known as “Critical Theory”.
Critical Theory was created by Max Horkheimer among others at the Frankfurt School in Germany which was a Marxist think tank created to study why Marxism hadn’t been embraced.
What they came up with was that they needed to divide people into not bourgeoisie and proletariat, but along intersectional race and gender lines.
As revolutionaries (their words not mine), they saw it as their duty to suppress non acceptable speech as they were objectively right and to amplify divisions on those lines to enhance their movement.
Rather than attack on an economic front they leveraged psychology to distort language while they began their slow march to capture entertainment, academia and bureaucratic institutions.
We’re here discussing the fruits of what they began 60 years ago, but it’s all fruit of the same Marxist tree.
