Supreme Rice (Crowley) question black residue

This is the second time we have noticed a black residue that floats up with the Supreme Rice. Have strained it away, but am curious if this is normal. Does not happen with other rice.

So, I won’t lie, I had an issue with supreme rice. I noticed small gravel/rocks in the rice. I poured it all into a container and sorted it. There were a lot of these small hard rocks.
I sorted the rice and pulled out all I could find. I emailed the company just to tell them what I found. I said I wasn’t looking for any reimbursement, I was just informing them of the issue.
Their response was the rocks were natural with rice farming (maybe so) and they were safe to eat (I disagree). I was at the least expecting them to say they would check the problem out. They did not.
I went back to Mahatma. Never had an issue and it’s the rice I have bought forever. I have no interest in using Supreme.

I can promise you “rocks” aren’t natural to have in rice. There should be no rocks in a bag of milled rice. Rice fields have no rocks in them. Supreme is doing a poor job of handling their milled rice. There’s contamination somewhere. It’s a shame they won’t address it because buying local should mean something.

It's a shame thats the response you got. I believe most LA folks have pride and like to buy local.

The old folks always told me the rat shite floated after rinsing rice? I’ve heard of people finding steel shot before too.

There are several other Acadia Parish brands to buy from.
Falcon which is Cajun country, Parish is from Eunice I think, Southern Belle from Rayne. Baker Farms etc.
frick em if they got too big to be too good for actual locals.

I don’t buy Mahatma because there’s no telling where your rice is coming from.
I’m from Acadiana, so I stick with the mills from the area.

Cajun country is good people. I grew up playing golf with the family.

Robby was a few years older than me when I moved here. He was a solid dude and went out of his way to make me feel welcome.
To the OP plenty of other options for locally grown rice. I’ve not experienced what you have but I’d feel the same if I had.

I like Cajun Country Toro. Very clean. Never found trash in it.. No black BB's.

There's something wrong with their processing. I haven't had that occur with Cajun Country or sushi rice.

Distantly related to them so we've always bought Toro if we can find it or Cajun Country if not.
Maybe it's in my head, but Toro is the best long grain rice. I also prefer it to basmati and jasmine.

Toro is a very old variety. It is a very pretty rice. Most of what you get today is something developed not too long ago to suit todays growing practices.

There should not be "rocks" in rice unless you defect from North Korea and get captured. It might be fortified rice that was put in it.

You and I both. It doesn't take much of a rock to chip or break a tooth if bitten down on hard enough. NOBODY expects to find rocks in their cooked rice much less simply overlook it like it's normal.

Had the same thing but it was Creole Country brown rice. Black residue floated to top during cooking. Cooked rice tasted a bit different but not bad. Thinking must be a fungus.

Glad to read this thread as I've had a problems with Supreme and thought it was only me.
As for the other local brands, where are you buying them? We shop at Zuppardo's or Rouses mostly (NOLA) and was wondering who made Rouses brand rice.
