Do people honestly think McMahon will be coaching here next season?

He hasn’t sniffed the tourney in 4 years. A official statement was put out last year saying we needed to invest in him via the portal…and the results are no different (actually worse) The guy who hired him is no longer here. Fan discontent has largely turned to apathy at a level impossible to ignore. The new AD/president just made a major splash hire in another sport.
Use your brains, people.

Nope

LSU is about to overpay for a big coach and they have to.
They cannot spend another 2-3 years letting a young coach develop a team.

This is a myth imo in the transfer portal era
Vandy, Louisville, Iowa, Virginia, and Michigan have all had immediate turnarounds hiring mid major coaches in the past 2 years.

Verge put it pretty bluntly earlier that he HAD to make the tournament, I mean this is pretty black and white

This isn’t happening.

Brian Kelly may have screwed that. We are paying his buyout, new salaries for the football staff, and we would have to buyout McMahon and his staff. Then we would have to pay for a new coach and staff. Not sure LSU is going to be able to pay for all of that.

We just spent 8 figures in one football transfer portal window after the costs to buyout Kelly and hire Lane.
The costs to buyout and hire coaches are rarely all due at once. They'll make it work

I think it’s silly to complain about him still being employed. Just let the season end get it done. With the publicity we dealt with during the Kiffin saga, no need to tamper with a coach in the middle of a run.

This isn't football! Those types of hires don't happen as much in basketball. And they aren't necessary. We've seen multiple mid-major hires immediately turnaround a major conf. program in one offseason.
For example, A&M has a 1st year HC hired from Samford. Despite the "insurmountable" obstacle of returning 0 players from last year's A&M roster, he has them on pace to reach the NCAA Tournament this season. In fact, with a win tonight that HC will have won half as many SEC games (8) in just 11 games than McMahon has won (16) in SIXTY FIVE games

no, he had finished with one winning season by 1 game since he has been here. Alabama is winning, We are in a race to the bottom with OU. He won't be here next season.

I think he is only slightly more likely to coach LSU next year than me.

If it’s not Will Wade I bet it’s a young hungry coach

For a little while there, I thought LSU was going to try to not buy him out and come up with some kind of bullshite excuse, but I now think they have no choice. It will do more damage to avoid the buyout. And it's going to suck even more because whomever they bring in will be expensive.

I honestly wouldn’t put it past our administration to retain him given their chronic neglect of the program, and if they do I hope every season ticket holder doesn’t renew.

They are now in a no choice situation. Had he won some games it might have bought some time but at this point I don't see how they keep him. Only thing that would derail that is if the boosters won't put up the money. Especially with the rumors that Wade is open to returning. If they can't get him then it's probably going to be another up and coming mid major like the St Louis coach.
