NFL down to 3 black head coaches
Two likely won’t make it past 2026 season

Demeco Ryans might be the only one left

Yea but more blacks are matriculating through the ranks. The days of the Rooney rule are unnecessary at this point as more blacks organically go through the system

It's stupid it was a rule in the first place, hire the best person even if they are blue.

If he don’t get rid of CJ Stroud he’s not interested in being nothing more than a Tomlin. Do just enough to stay hired.

Therefore, what's the point? Affirmative action required hires at least.

There is some white chick on instagram who daily posts about this or just how blacks are treated poorly in sports (and the world honestly).

The Rooney rule is dumb and I would feel like a tool if I was the ‘token interview’ for a team.

Which eventually still gets you fired

I think Shula’s record is safe.

Isn't limited to just blacks.

Dave Canales is Hispanic.
Robert Saleh is Arabic.

the point was to at least interview them and possibly find a guy that was being overlooked.

and the side benefit of giving up and comers some experience int he interview process.

we'll never know if it actually helped or not because nobody will ever admit publicly "we only interviewed him because we had to interview a black guy, and he killed it in the interview so we hired him"

Isn’t this the story of the Steelers hiring Tomlin?

Well if that was true, how would you know if someone was better when you constantly hire retread coaches. It's amazing how some coaches gets to fail multiple times.

If I recall correctly, I believe the Broncos interviewed Vance Joseph when they hired Kubiak, which ultimately led to Joseph being hired when Kubiak stepped down.

Probably. But they sure tipped the scales the other direction with the trash McCarthy hiring. Did anybody see his introductory presser? If dude doesn’t die on the sidelines this fall, I’ll be shocked.

This post isn’t so much a commentary on the Rooney Rule, just fat McCarthy. Carry on.

Doesn't that depend on what you are trying to argue. If you need to fill a quota of interviewing minority candidates, the owners get to count him as a minority interview. But, if you want to bitch about the number of minority HCs, the media gets to count him as white, win/win

if true, then that's exactly what the rule was originally intended to do.
give guys that otherwise may not have even been on the radar a chance to show their potential.

Not where most of us here were raised. I had only known one person from the Middle East in high school. He was a kid some people from my church brought home from Iran when they were working for an oil company there.

When I got to LSU in 1978,I found out most people there called anyone from the Middle East 'Camel Jockeys' or 'Sand N*ggers' whether their hair was straight or curly.
