I've never served and I have the utmost respect for the guys that have. Done a lot of reading on guys like Audie Murphy, Dan Daly, Richard Bong, John Paul Jones, etc.

I'm genuinely fascinated at the bravery and resolve that these men in history displayed, but rather than just searching for articles about the best service members I figured I'd see if any vets had any guys that stood out or inspired them at some point in time.

Obviously, I'd hope there would be deep respect for anyone who served our country, but if you could only tell the story of one service member to the next generation, who would it be?

I went to the same base Pat Tilman was deployed to about a week after he died. I remember people talking about him there, but I didn't know who he was at the time.

I learned the full story later on. Wish I had got to meet the guy. So Pat Tilman is my answer, what an amazing story. Sad it ended the way it did.

The same Chris Dorner that killed 3 people?

Careful you don't cut yourself on that sharp edge, Eugene.

Not military myself but I've always been fond of those lunatic test pilots.

Joseph Kittinger's life would make an awesome biopic.

Roy Benavidez. Should have a base named after him, absolute badass.

Mike Vining... doesn't look like a badass, but absolutely is.

I've read up on Roy Benavidez a good bit. Pretty incredible story. I've seen a lot about Mike Vining but have never done a true deep dive. May learn up on him next.

I think it was NewsMax that just released a special on him. I'll have to watch it.

Audie Murphy was a reject that overachieved in the most humble way. I was surprised to see that most people had never heard of him.

Two of the names I was going to list. Oscar Mike Mike is an awesome example.

The Legend (Vinning) is an all timer.

I would also say Rick Rescorla is a dude that belongs on this list.

The epitome of a Biden-era Army Officer. I'm so proud to have worn the same uniform as him.

all i know is in boot camp we had to say "GOOD NIGHT CHESTY", every single night!!!

one of my favorite quotes by Mr Puller: "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things!" or variations like, "Great. Now we can shoot at those bastards from every direction," turning a dire situation into an offensive opportunity.

I'm pretty sure in that scene he replies, "How do you know what kind of ghat damned day it is"
