There are no Toyota Grand Highlanders available in South Louisiana.

At least not in the higher trim packages with AWD. Dealerships show them on their website as being in “build phase” but most of them say “sale pending.”
Is this car really that hot? People are buying them before they leave the factory? Never seen anything like it.

They are calling it the grand highlander craze of the century

I’m holding out for the Toyota Majestic Highlander.

Not many AWD's get sent to South Louisiana.

Well, certainly not with that attitude.

yet another reason I am glad not to live in south Louisiana

Yes. In short, every mom in America thinks she needs a three row "sports utility" that is in reality a Camry jacked up wagon. It's literally on a Camry platform. It cannot do anything more than an awd camry, and you don't need awd in the south. Most of our moms did not need this, but Madison avenue has done a great job of convincing you otherwise.
But hey buy Toyota stock if you can. They have the system figured out cold. The only mainstream brand that regularly has newish used cars selling for more than 0-mile new cars.

the amount of 100 pound women I see driving alone in a gargantuan SUV is crazy. Its amazing that they convinced all those women that they need a vehicle that big and that they are capable of driving it safely

Yes it really is. We just bought one but got real lucky with a family member having the connection from a Previous purchase.
Multiple dealerships we talked to had 5+ coming in within a few months - all already pre-purchased

They may have kids and with every car on the road being an SUV or truck, maybe they want the safety of a larger vehicle. The amount of judgement people pass on other people’s cars while probably driving an equally absurd car gets me. People buy what they want, and it doesn’t matter why.

Except this upcoming weekend. Otherwise, it’s probably a waste, unless you take a yearly ski trip to the mountains.

Problem is the name Highlander. It implies- “There can be only one”.

I'm holding out for the Grand Wizard Highlander.

Did you try the Toyota website. You can search inventory based on location and expand the search distance. Then you can narrow it down to "in stock" , not build phase and not in transit.

This is timely. I’m in Texas but literally sitting in a dealership right two hours from my house now to purchase one.
They aren’t easy to find here either
ETA: Told the dealer to get fricked. Tried to add $4k of shite at the last minute and wouldn't budge
