And they keep hitting stuff.

Apparently one of them complained to the dealer that her barge-sized vehicle was too big to maneuver after bringing it in for damage repair for the fifth time.

“Well,” he said, “you are whittling it down.”

I get into this same fight with my in laws.

Very into the BR housewife scene keeping up with the joneses. New car every few years. Always some pimped out SUV. Always shocked the SUV isn’t actually a great car for kids and the stuff doesn’t fit quite right. I tell her to get a minivan and they scoff at it every time.

Not really trying to brag here but I went to a public high school in the DC burbs that was super wealthy. We all drove minivans. The CEO of a major hotel chain who’s kids went to my school had them driving a minivan to school if we can drive minivans, Baton Rouge housewives can drive minivans.

They may have kids and with every car on the road being an SUV or truck, maybe they want the safety of a larger vehicle. The amount of judgement people pass on other people’s cars while probably driving an equally absurd car gets me. People buy what they want, and it doesn’t matter why.

Thank you. The OT is a breeding ground for people who think mediocrity (Look at me, I drive a 10 year old truck while you have a note) is something to be celebrated. If I want it and can afford it I'm gonna get it and your opinion is not significant or desired.

There's at least 45. Over 300 if you look in Dallas/Houston

I’ve said it before. 100%. I looked at the Grand Highlander when we were shopping around for our last vehicle. When you look at what you give up just to not have a minivan, it made no sense.

We ended up getting a Sienna and couldn’t be happier.

Went to the dealership, put down a deposit (like $100 or so) told them what all we were interested in and they called when they had something coming in that fit the bill. Only took a month or so.

Probably not.

About 1.5 years ago while car shopping for the wife not a single Toyota dealership in the area even had a Highlander to look at. None. Actually the lots were pretty sparse for almost everything.

I think Toyota just intentionally keeps less inventory.

Their loss...she loves her Pathfinder.

Sorry you suburban baws couldnt' figure out how to tell your wife she's spending too much on a pointless car. Looks like there's 32 of you. Should've taken her to Supper Club baton rouge for mothers' day last year.

It was my understanding that at the end of 2024 and beginning of 2025 Toyota stopped production of the Grand Highlander due to a side airbag recall. Because of that, they never caught back up with demand.

I think in reality, Toyota is purposely limiting the inventory of the Grand Highlander to artificially create the higher demand.

I've been wondering this as well. There are very few Grand Highlanders around. And I can't imagine that a relatively mundane, nearly $60k SUV can be that hot of an item. Especially with the issues that Toyota has been having with the current generation of engines, though the 2.4 seems to be doing better than the 3.5. I had been in the car market late last year and had a quick look, the dealer markup on them was insane and ended up going with a smaller model and buying a Mazda instead, don't regret that decision at all.

I know they had a stop-sell in '24, but didn't figure that there would still be issues into '26. Makes sense that they just may not be building many of them.

We’ve got an Odyssey. I love it. But it has no clearance, no AWD, needs to stay on pavement, gets not great gas mileage and would probably lose in a wreck with an SUV. Do I want an SUV? No, because I have all that in my truck. If I drove an EV instead, an SUV would start making sense.

What cars people get have a ton of reasons, and it’s best if you just don’t care. The automakers are making what people buy.
