I’m in Austin for a conference and most of my coworkers never ventured out to explore the local flavors and ate whatever BS was catered to them. Similar to Europe, people eat at the town center restaurants with the Indian/arab dudes hustling you in.

What is wrong with yall lol?

Wait, you’re angry people decided to eat the food delivered specifically for them at an industry conference where they can more easily network and meet people from that particular industry, as opposed to going off site and away from their entire purpose of being there?

Some folks lack curiosity and are just fine being boring.

Those people are weird, I love local cuisine. I've tried McDonald's in 47 states and in 8 different countries.

What would you think the local cuisine of a place the size of Austin is?

conference

Must be your first conference or you're young. Power to you for wanting to get out and hit the town.

Once you've been in the conference circuit long enough (especially if it's an annual conference you've been going to for years), the luster of hitting the town fades.

I tried this one time in Mexico.

Never again. I got the full Mexican experience.

To each their own, but many of these folks have a tendency to tell others how the world works. That gets annoying.

I get it if it’s Omaha Nebraska or something, but Austin Texas is a culinary capital

Dude, it’s not like Austin is going to have dramatically different food than the rest of the country. Their BBQ isn’t that different than what you’ll find in most of the south (unless you’re some type of hard core foodie).

Now Carolina BBQ is disgusting.

20 years ago we went to Austin for a conference,,,,for reference we are from Lafayette and I cool in amateur cookoffs,,,,,either way, we are wondering around downtown and our VP (a cheapskate) noticed a “Cajun” restaurant and wanted to eat there,,,,,absolute dog crap experience,,,,I didn’t eat and left and caught a cab to Blacks BBQ.
