Some people grew up on fast food and it doesn't occur to them to get an actual meal

Definitely a lot more to the Austin dining scene than that

Eh, Chuy's isn't even really Chuy's anymore since the buyout.

But more to the OP, you say "Austin" but the location in "Austin" makes a really big difference when you're talking about going out to eat lunch in the middle of a conference.

If you're downtown, sure you can just walk to a bunch of places. Other locations just aren't that convenient.

Whole hog pit cooked BBQ is disgusting? Hummm???? Interesting.

And you realize that there are AT LEAST 3 types of BBQ in NC...

Awesome. Try to get down to Agra to see the Taj Mahal and don't sleep on Agra fort if you do. If you're flying in and out of Delhi hit qutub minar if you have time. All of those are cool AF.

This is dumb, like really dumb. I've been all over the South eating Barbecue and, no, TX brisket and beef ribs are not found in most of the South.

This is dumb take #2. While not as tasty as TX brisket, Carolina bbq is great. The changes of both the meat, sauces and coleslaw as you move around NC and SC adds to my interest.

What’s up with nowadays people bragging about eating local or exploring when they travel? This is something people have naturally done since beginning of man, and now all of a sudden it’s something people brag about. Millions do it everyday

Dude, it’s not like Austin is going to have dramatically different food than the rest of the country. Their BBQ isn’t that different than what you’ll find in most of the south (unless you’re some type of hard core foodie).

I routinely shite on Austin, but Interstellar BBQ is the best I have ever had. It’s way better than Salt Lick. Franklin’s is great too. Sorry…I won’t deny Austin having a great BBQ scene.

Central TX BBQ is far superior to all other BBQ in the country IMO

And that's not to say that other places aren't enjoyable

You can get tex mex anywhere. Why would I limit myself to that just because I'm in Austin?

Tex Mex in Houston and Austin is pretty bougie. My coworkers not from Texas thought it was Mexican food, but I had to correct them that it was Tex Mex.

I always try local food, but I also make it a point to eat at a McDonalds in every country I visit.

I think the comparisons with McDonalds here and how they operate are interesting.
