User Friendliness Needs a Massive Overhaul

Maybe I'm just getting old, but the obsession of companies with being sleak and minimal, yet trying to offer endless options have led to products being unnecessarily complicated.
Examples:
TV: hiding basic functions on the actual TV and relying on a remote for everything.
Appliances: people want reliability with appliances not 16 options to wash your clothes and dishes. Give me 2 buttons on a dishwasher [On] [Off]
Automobile consoles: Do we really need a tablet as a center console? It's unnecessarily complicated to do basic functions in new cars. My old man moment was recently being in a brand new rental car and not figuring out how to change the radio volume until day 2.
In my opinion, the most essential functions should be abundantly obvious and that's no longer the case.

I take it you don't have a $7,000 smart fridge either

Some time ago I read an article in a Car & Driver magazine (yes, an actual paper magazine) that this was called "Why-tech" instead of "High-tech"
It's even worse nowadays, FFS do we need a phone app for everything?

I’m tired of website redesigns

Screens are cheaper to make than physical controls in cars.

I can understand those but I really hate them.

This shite too. I don't want to have to login with a username and password every time I want to use your product.
There's a good Always Sunny episode about this and I'm Dennis to a Tee

Was literally just having a conversation with a colleague last week about how my employer updated our website to look more "slick," yet the functionality of the website went down the toilet.
Sometimes...simpler is better.

You're not wrong. I'm 40. It's out of control. Over engineered bullshite in everything these days.

Over complexity is what is keeping the economy propped up.
If everyone simplified, unemployment would hit 20 percent.

All I want is channels with numbers and a remote that let's me punch in the numbers. I dont want to scroll through a bunch of icons for streaming services.
The last TV I bought came with a remote that had one circular button and another button inside it that said OK. That's all.

100% correct.
The other issue is the "featues" come with software glitches, cheaper parts and lower reliability.
I have a freezer that is 43 years old, moved 4 times and just works. I want stuff like that.

Add entergy"s new customer portal to your list. So annoying, it is like a Bleacher Report slideshow

That one is so they can leech all the data off your phone like your location and such.

It's cheaper not to have buttons

They fail by design

They still sell cars with physical buttons. Most car companies are moving back to physical buttons because everything screen sucks.

Having to make accounts and log ins for everything these days pisses me off. Just let me order a fricking pizza

I’m with you on the TV stuff. Apple is the worst. Here’s three buttons to navigate 1,000,000 options and settings.

I often experience this when I use computer mouse to click a button…all kinds of user-friendly things pop up out of nowhere, and I am clicking wrong thing and cursing like a sailor.
