He was off his game more than usual. Lots of fumbling over words and names, misremembering statistics, on multiple occasions he kept asking "is it a catch? Did they rule it a catch?" when it was obvious the receiver didn't have the ball. Does he actually have a drinking problem?

The facemask question was embarrassing. Doubt the Ole Miss call even questioned that.

I have a drinking problem and I had no problem seeing how bad he was.

Saw him interviewed this morning on one of the ESPN shows. Looked horrific.

He made a few comments about Vegas and the way he was chuckling about going there made me think that he's put in time seriously partying there.

I was dumbfounded. It's subjective? There's a standard for how far a player's neck is cranked before it's an issue? lol

He very frequently makes errors, I’m not sure why he’s so beloved on this board. He was an outstanding Gameday host, but he’s not a good PBP.

The truth is that Fowler has always been bad as a game announcer. He was an elite reporter and studio host and should have stayed in that lane, but I'm sure ESPN coerced him into his current role because they needed a known face/name to head up their coverage going into the CFP era.

But yes, he had way more slips than normal last night. It was very bad. He mentioned that Ole Miss was driving to go up by 8 when they were down 1 point at the time. Then when he tried to correct himself he messed up again.

Downvote away if I have this wrong, but I believe facemask includes a grab of the mask and not, for example, a flat hand smacking against it.

On that play the grab was on the slight side, and I think that is what he was getting at and the ref analyst saying basically "ya, the helmet turned enough that enough grab occurred so good call."

The whole episode about "is it a catch" made me wonder if he was just on the wrong side of the field or something from his vantage point because the camera angle was clear as day.

He seems very genuine and likeable

Unlike Rece who seems like an arrogant turd.

I could be wrong about both.

In the sense that he didn't spin his head backwards like the Exorcist but even if you think it wasn't enough for a facemask it should've been called PI then.

With Ole Miss down 1 close to the goal line, he made the comment that Ole Miss was trying to go up by 8.

That can't happen. That mean he wasn't aware of the most basic game situation at the most critical point in the game.

Funny but not what I was getting at. My recollection of the play was ya, his head went back quite a bit. But the "grab" wasn't deep. I recall thinking how violently the head went back on a grab that shallow (that you normally see on much worse/"obvious" facemasks). I think that's what he was getting at. I think regardless if there was a grab of the fingers around the metal or not, if your hand makes someone's head do that there should probably be a flag for it.

Anyway, sort of semantics on my end to be fair.

The facemask question was embarrassing.

My favorite was when Beck ran for a 1st down on one play, he said, "the big guy with a block on the edge."

The "big guy" was Malachi Toney.

He tried to correct himself by saying it was a "big block" instead, but he still kind of flubbed his words.

I told my wife he must have been high. He was definitely off. And the lead/score thing was bizarre. Screwed it up twice.
