I wonder how much the Danes will want for that little settlement along the Greenland Coast that Eric the Red claimed?

quote:

Anyway, the talk in Trump world about Greenland has given mouthpieces like Jake Tapper a case of the sads. After Katie Miller’s post, Tapper anxiously pestered her husband Stephen Miller about Greenland. “Can you,” quoth Tapper, “rule out that the US is ever going to try to take Greenland by force?” “Greenland should be part of the United States,” replied Miller. He then offered him a lesson in realpolitik. “We live in a world, in the real world, Jake, that is governed by strength, that is governed by force, that is governed by power,” he said. “These are the iron laws of the world since the beginning of time.” Has Miller been reading his Thucydides (see Book 5.89)? Miller then asked an interesting question: by what right does Denmark have Greenland? Is it because Erik the Red founded a settlement there around AD 1000? I think the Danes will have to do better than that.

Can we get it done during the winter? Does anyone know how the Northern Lights are there? I am thinking of a trip to Iceland, but the state of Greenland would work.

The US has protected that place since WW2. Seward wanted Greenland and Iceland when we got Alaska.
It’s time the Danes give it up.

Be honest. If someone started a thread a month ago titled "Maduro will be in American custody in one month" you'd have had this same response, no?

I shall repost -

The way out would be for there to be a referendum in Greenland simply asking the people do you want to remain part of Denmark, become a US State like Alaska or become an Independent Country?

I do not think the majority of people would vote for that, at least not according to any surveys I have seen.

So we should just invade it in that case? Invade a country that has never done us harm and does not threaten us?

Here is what we do. We agree to purchase and stock both Greenland and the US with a lifetime supply of these.

I'm assuming there will be no state income tax in Greenland, USA?

Why do we want Greenland? We already have a base there and full military use.

He should part one of the carrier fleets in international waters off of Greenland's coast just for shits and giggles.

I knew the elites have wanted a North American Union for the last 50 years. I didn’t know that it would come under the cloak of patriotism.

They aren't going to become a US state. If having a referendum, the question wouldn't be do you want statehood, but rather would you prefer to remain a Danish protectorate or become a US protectorate.

You'd have said "no we won't," just as I would have. The point is that no one knows what the future holds.

There’s like 50,000 people in Greenland.

Offer them US citizenship and to be an autonomous territory like Puerto Rico. We will send in our oil and mining companies to extract resources estimated in the trillions. 10% of revenue goes to the locals, divided equally. That’s 2,000 dollars per person for every billion dollars in revenue

I bet they’d take that deal

Perhaps but my overall point remains. If they say no, we should invade it like the Soviets invaded Hugary and Romania and Poland and etc etc?

This smells to me like a Trump ego "I grew the American empire" thing not a necessary one. If we wanted 10 military bases in Greenland we would get them, there is no reason to do what Trump is talking about.
