I have a 2025 Silverado with the electronic shifter in the console. My truck died on me and I need to put it in neutral to get it out of the driveway to work on it and I cannot figure out how to get it to neutral. Chat GPT says to pop the trim under the shifter and there’s a manual release, but I can’t get the trim to pop open without fear of damaging it. Any help?

I found this:

quote:

Press and hold the start/stop button with key fob with you and foot off the brake pedal for 3-5 sec. lights on your dashboard will flash and your truck will go into ACC mode now you can move the gear lever to neutral by pressing on the brake and shifting to neutral.

Is the battery dead? Can you put a jump box on it?

When I got it into ACC mode, anytime I would try to shift it would say “conditions to shift are not met” or something like that.

Battery is not dead. It stalled on me and threw a code. Code reader says Fuel Control Module

When mine was stuck in gear and I had to get it towed (2020 Silverado), the tow truck driver got under the truck and using his hand was able to shift gears to get it in neutral. I'm not sure what he did but might be worth trying to looking into it.

Look at your Owners Manual.

There should be a lever on the side of the transmission that a cable connects to that you can manually manipulate if you pull the cable off just make sure wheels are chocked or a friend is on the brake pedal. Easy to do with the older auto transmissions but not sure on these new knob turners.

Google this document, it tells you how using a special tool, some forums say you can use an 8MM wrench.

Not being a smart arse but I have moved several trucks by towing them with a regular pickup truck and having someone put dawn dish liquid under the trail of the towed truck.

Given it's a new truck... Pop the hood first, disconnect battery.

Wait.

It will likely work fine when you reconnect.

Is it not under warranty? Will the dealership not deal with it?

This must have been what he did because he had me sit in the truck and press the brake and also let him know what gear he has switched to.

Why aren't you calling the dealership and telling them to come fix their beached whale?

I had this exact same thing happen to me with the same code. Had to get a tow truck to get it moved for the dealer to fix. Yukon died as I was pulling into gas station and wouldn’t crank back up. Same year. They had to replace the module.
