Did anyone else’s grandmother have one of those built in trash compactors in the kitchen?

I’m guessing it was a 60s thing as I havn’t seen one since. It was like one of those under counter microwaves except it was a trash compactor.
Probably used the same technology we used to go to the moon which explains why they are nonexistent these days.

We had one growing up. It lived until about ten years ago. When it died, my parents just put a garbage can in its place.

We used to love playing with that thing then we’d get yelled at.

Still everywhere in Europe. They are required to use them by their trash nazis

Don’t think I’ve ever seen that before
Edit it seems like a smart idea though to help out with landfills I guess

Same. The trash compactor long outlived the vacuum system. My mom hated the vacuum system and preferred the regular vacuum.
Those little plugs around the house for the vacuum hose to connect to were always go to Easter egg hiding spots.

Those compactor bags are the GOAT garbage bags.

No. The closest she came to it was mashing the trash in the can down with her foot to be able to fit more in. Trash bags cost money ya know.

The garbage trucks do a pretty good job of that themselves.
My aunt and uncle had one in 90’s. It was “fun” to use as a kid and look at before and after.

We had one in our previous house less than four years ago.
The previous owners claimed they were going to put in a wine fridge once it died. That was probably close to 10 years ago. We lived there five years, and it worked like a charm. It wasn’t our primary trash can. We used it for things like empty cereal and cracker boxes. Bulky items that would crush easily.

Nah. I suppose someone will call you ‘poor’ though.
