Honest question from someone who lives out of market and hasn’t been able to watch many games:

Shough and Rattler have nearly identical passing and rushing stats (if anything, Rattler is slightly better in both).

What is it that makes Shough a better option?

Shough has a better command of the offense, is more consistent with his reads, and throws darts with the same velocity of Elway and Favre

Shough has been better situationally. He also looks to have a stronger arm, a little bit more explosive running ability, and more decisive decision making. He also doesn't make as many negative or mind numbing plays when things get grimy or off schedule in/out of the pocket.

I don't understand how you baws can sit here and watch Drew Brees play ball for 12 years and still not understand what good and bad QB play looks like. Our fanbase should be much higher IQ than normal when it comes to QB's.

Box scores can be a guide, but they never tell the entire story.

More composure in the pocket. Rattler seemingly just got the ball knocked out of his hands so many times. He has fumbled 9 times. Thats horrendous.

Decision making. Shough seems to make quicker decisions and doesnt hold on the ball near as long.

About the only thing i like more about rattler is his ability to scramble and make something out of nothing during busted plays. But its not enough to make up for other deficiencies.

You'll have to watch the games. Stats dont do it much justice

Shough 3-3 vs Rattler 1-13.
Spencer Rattler’s last 5 games he completed 55% of his passes with a 75 passer rating. Shough’s last 5 games he completed 70% of his passes with a 94 passer rating.

How are you looking at their stats and coming to this conclusion. Just going by career.

Shough has started 6 games and played in 8 and is 3-3 with 66.7% Cmp, 1484 Yds, 6 TDs, 5 Ints, 138 Rus, 2 Rus TDs.

Rattler has started 14 games and played in 16 and is 1-13 with 62.7% Cmp, 2903 Yds, 12 TDs, 10 Ints 313 Rus, 0 Rus TDs.

Shough is only getting better plus he is not scared to throw the ball down the field. If you watch the game you can clearly see Shough is the better QB.

Shough just needs more time with the starters

Just going off of stats alone doesn't paint the full picture.

If Rattler has a lot of his passing yards in 3rd and 25 situations but failed to convert the first down, then those yards are useless..

Shough clearly understands the game better and has a quicker motor. Also, Shough is doing this on an entire season less than Rattler. He's the better option and theirs really no argument

People aren’t going to give an honest opinion because they hate Rattler.

Rattler was ok when he played to his strengths. More of the qb runs we see now should have been used with Rattler at qb. He has good film at times this year but we definitely look better now based on the eye test. In hindsight, our schedule was brutal in the early parts of the year during his starts and there isn’t much difference in the points scored department.

Shough opens up the middle of the field more with his arm strength and size. Rattler had issues with accuracy in this part of the field mainly because of his size. Shough speed in the run game and ability to make off platform throws have been a joy to watch.

To be accurate in this comparison figure in Rattler with 2 different HC's and 2 different OC's. Saying they both played from the same deck is simply not accurate.

Shough is a rookie playing in his first NFL games this season; Rattler played in 7 last season. The fact that they have very similar stats this season seems to me to be an indicator that Shough is a better QB.

That is not to disparage Rattler, but I would say that Shough probably has a higher ceiling. Apparently, the coaches seem to feel that way as well.

How does that matter if they were both learning a new offense in the same offseason? Should we consider that Shough has had 5 different coaches and coordinators in the last 6 years?
