Walmart facial recognition camera software going further than you assume?

Cameras in the parking lot tracking your license plate.
Cameras in-store recognizing your face.
Carts now have GPS that monitors the path you walk and how long you stay still in which places in the store.
Little crazy.

They've been doing this by triangulating cell phones for years now. Know how you have "connect automatically" set for your home wifi? Your phone constantly sends out a ping looking for that SSID. Pretty simple to track from there.
It's how I busted people bringing cellphones in to secure areas over ten years ago.

100% of the people worried about this spend 7-10 hours a day staring at their smart phone without a care in the world.

All this and they still got some lady standing at the exit asking for your receipt to see if you paid for the 15 dollar toaster that would not fit in a bag.

I heard a rumor that the facial recognition at the self check out keeps tabs on people that skip scanning items or scan a cheaper barcode in order to reduce the price of an item. Once you hit the felony monetary level of theft that information and video is turned over to the police. And they already have your plate number from tracking you to the parking lot.

I think a guy in thib got busted that way with sports cards. We just need to accept we have zero privacy. Its all gone. I can tell how long it took a customer from seeing our ad somewhere to coming into eat and the average is 3 days

Their AI accused me of theft of a bell pepper a few weeks ago.
I stopped into Walmart to pick something up for my wife and only the self checkout was open, I was cooking gumbo that day so I figured I'd just get the produce stuff there. While doing the self checkout the machine stopped and wanted an attendant to come over, he comes over, ask what he can help with, I tell him no clue, the machine did it, turns out the overhead camera thought I'd put 5 bell peppers in my bag, even though I only had 4, and put 4 into the quantity.

In light of how many people don't turn off third party tracking cookies in their browsers, don't use private mode or VPNs, this is a minor issue. Especially since you're in either public or someone else's business. People that use things like RocketMoney don't realize they're turning over detailed banking history, line by line.

If it's a sweet looking old lady I stop, if not I just smile and keep walking.

I love when we get the occasional poster on here or the Help Board complaining about women's lingerie, AIDS medication, or other homo stuff for ads.

I was in the Wally World a one evening a couple of weeks ago. Some old codger was going over the receipt and items of a couple of Mexicans like a kraut checking your papers. He just told me and two other people behind me to go ahead on out without being checked.

They can't even keep the front wheel from flopping back and forth. You expect me to believe they have a battery powered GPS tracker in it?
The First person that gets a chemical burn when a lipo battery explodes in a shopping cart is about to make $$$$$$$

A general area perhaps but I struggle to imagine that at such a short range you have poor resolution. Not asile by asile.

Just another reason to avoid Walmart.

Turns out they have every right to check your receipt, shopkeepers privilege.

There is no way anything electronic is fully functioning on a Walmart shopping cart. Nothing in that entire store is fully functioning be it man or machine.

They goddamn well do. You haven't seen these boxes mounted on all the carts in the past few months?
