Ultimately, the operational and legislative requirements along with last-minute scheduling constraints could not support the game.

But obviously too short notice for the one school that was interested

Let me guess Notre Dame, who should have been trying to schedule these games

We had these last minute games during COVID…

They and their middle aged QB are out. They just need to accept it.

BYU and coastal Carolina did it. It can be done.

Exactly why expanding the playoff was dumb. Teams that are out will always cry about not getting in, whether they’re #5 or #65

The committee may need to look into some "play-in" games for the future for the last couple spots. The selection is way too arbitrary of a process currently.

I'm not going to raise an issue about it, because ultimately, they lost 2 games. And when you lose 2 games, your fate is no longer in your hands. But Vandy does have a right to get screwed when multiple other 2-loss teams will be getting in who also didn't win their conference.

ND has no interest in playing another ranked team.

they’re about to cost in on Gold Helmets and quality loses

Miami is such a good loss I mean they’re basically a playoff team. Which is why Notre Dame should get in over them

ND just needs Tech to win (high likelihood) and they're good..
They wouldn't take this risk.

Expanding it was fine. Even at 16 teams (if they go that far) it's still the smallest ration of playoff spots to total teams of any major sport, including the pros. At 16 approximately 12% of the teams make the playoffs. Compare that with basketball (roughly 18%) and even the NFL (43%).

When the basis for selection is largely subjective you are ALWAYS going to have debate/criticism. The expansion didn't create that.

The easiest solution is to get rid of the byes and go to 16 teams. It gives top 4 seeds a home playoff game to bring in revenue and eliminates the pitfalls of the long layoff that hurt them a year ago.

Absolutely, I've never understood why fellow college football fans were so determined to keep meaningful postseason participation so small when pretty much every other sport on every other level is larger.

#65 is clearly not the top team.

#5 probably isn't but has a case in a year without any undefeateds.

The bowls were meaningful. The players and coaches used to like playing football games, and the fans used to like watching them, and that’s all it took for a game to matter.

And some bowls carried their own additional meaning, which we have now thrown in the trash with the rest of things we sacrifice to mammon.

Would watch. Treat it like a play in game. Would have off the chart ratings.

And then you will still have complaints about which teams were ranked 1 or 2 spots away from being in the play in game

They won't get in because they didn't beat anyone with a pulse outside of Tennessee and Mizzou, but I respect them trying. And honestly, for people who love college football, who wouldn't love a random Vandy/Miami or Vandy/ND "showcase" game on Championship Saturday? That'd be fun as hell.
