FBS desperately needs to adopt the FCS post season method

24 teams
Best team in each conference gets autobid (9 spots)
Additional auto bids
3 from SEC (4 total)
3 from Big 10 (4 Total)
2 from ACC (3 total)
2 from Big 12 (3 total)
5 at large spots
Top 8 ranked teams get byes
Round 1-3 on campus- Dec 5th, 12th, 19th
Semi's (rotate bowl sites) new years day
Finals Monday like it used to be Jan 12th
Conference championship games are meaningless when you have to break 5 way ties to determine who goes because the conferences are too large for everyone to play each other.
Hopefully Duke will win Saturday and they can see that this needs to be fixed

Every single level of football does it that way. FBS is the only one that cant get its head out of its own arse to do it right b/c the Big 10 and SEC feel entitled to 5-6 slots every year.

Drop the bowl games as sites and put every game on campus with the Championship Game as the exception. The bowls are leeches that only exist because they wine and dine ADs every off season

NB4 someone tells you that all other levels of football have irrelevant regular seasons

If you want a legit title-determination, you have to include the best teams. That will mean mostly Big10 and SEC teams.

Go to 16 and leave it alone, power 4 teams only
I would also create a 8 team playoff for the lower tier of D1 and let them have their own mini playoff

There are maybe 2 teams a year not from one of these conferences that have a non-zero chance of making it past 2 rounds of the current playoff format. If anything, there’s too many of them included rn.

The SEC and B10 have made it impossible to do a traditional playoff system like lower levels. They would need to realign conferences into regions again for it not to be a complete sham every year.

In FCS, only conference winner gets an autobid. Also in FCS, most conferences are one bid leagues with conferences like the Missouri Valley and Big Sky getting 4-5 at large bids a year. But they're not auto qualifiers, they're at-large based on conference strength.

Everyone bickers about tourney size, but I tried to break down how champions were crowned before BCS to my 13 year old and he thought I was messing with him. That’s how silly the bowl era sounds to someone who didn’t live through it

Anyone below age 25 today can’t grasp the actual stupidity of the first 100 years of the sport of college football. That is why I say all Natties before the playoffs will have asterisks by them soon because when you google the National Champion in 1954 and 3 teams pop up it’s hilarious.
We all know the playoffs will go to 24. The only fight will be the auto bids. It will probably be based on percentages so if a conference both have 18 teams they’ll have the same number of auto bids. The public will not tolerate favoritism in auto bids. I expect my conference, the ACC, will get raided when the buy out drops based on the Clemson/FSU lawsuit settlement. That means the SEC and BIG could grab another 3-4 teams each which will lead to 3-4 divisions per conference.

Well they do… I don’t think this is a controversial opinion

Rankings make at large auto bids for conferences unnecessary.
Simply don’t limit any conference and rank top 25. 6 highest ranked conference champions get auto bids and the remaining 10-18 bids (16 or 24 team format) are then chosen by the rankings.
I’d say stick with 16 and no byes. Semifinals and final can be at neutral sites. First round and quarterfinals at host schools.

The NFL has 9-7 teams win the Super Bowl. And routinely the last few games of a season are a meaningless nuisance for teams.
