Why do people insist on facing the ugly side of the fence out in highly visible areas?

Don't you mean "It boggles the mind."? Besides, why would you want the ugly side of a fence to face your own yard?

I know it’s boggles. It’s a joke.

On the “well if I paid for it…” crowd, why not just live in a cargo container and never do anything to the outside of your house? Why landscape? Why paint and decorate?

Crazy seeing houses with everything nice and a backwards fence.

The simple answer is people put fences along property lines. If you put the nice side on the outside how could you repair it without getting on someone elses property? Ask me how i know.

I have an option for you. You could go put pickets on the "ugly" side of the fence so there is no ugly side of the fence.

code in my city that picket side faces out away from house. Frame side faces house. Up to you if you want to double picket.

in commercial applications you are required to install the fence boards on the outside of the fence. I think it looks ridiculous the opposite way anyway

the area to be enclosed is supposed to see the inside of the fence

Think has do with insurance. With boards out harder to climb. With the runners or whatever they're called could climb easier.

I once asked someone with a fenced pool why they had the ugly side on the interior where they had to look at it, and that was their explanation.

No pool for me, so I have the good side on the interior.

Insurance doesn't care which side faces in or out. The main issue w fences & home owners insurance is who owns the fence when the adjuster is working claims. All the adjuster can do is ask the homeowner do you own the fence, does neighbor own the fence, or is it jointly owned.

If you ever have a fence claim. Always say I own all the fence

It's freaking terrible and something I can't not see. The poles go on the inside no matter what.

I don't have any fences that don't face a neighbor so I have the pretty side. If I had a corner lot or a front yard fence, I'd probably do both sides. I didn't pay to put up a fence so my neighbor could have the pretty side.

This makes it look like it's your neighbor's fence, and now you can't stand on the frame and look over. And I reject "pretty side". If there is a pretty side, it's the side with the poles.

i had no idea how much people care about fences until after a storm knocked 2/3 sides of ours

my next door neighbor and I got it done within days, no problem

behind was a way bigger issue, both of us have dogs. They have a pool. I had a 2 year old. They dragged that shite out for weeks. Refusing to use the guy we used already and opting for a more expensive fence guy that was a month out before he could do it.

i wanted to use my backyard again without having to see them swimming , not inviting us over and having to worry about my kid running over to swim so i just put up a fence.

The insane shite that women was saying to us like "i need to know if they hand nail it or use a nail gun. Nail guns aren't as good of quality" or "i need to really trust the people i am hiring" like a fence needs to be put up by a master tradesmen

It's a big deal

I have zero wood fencing at the current house, but our neighborhood has zero consistency. Pretty common to see people with board side out to street connected to pole side along the sides. Makes my teeth hurt.
