Miss st isn’t any good and he won’t be the coach during the playoffs if he leaves.
What’s the point?

Maybe he actually likes his current team and wants to continue coaching them? What good does it do for him to leave his team right before a rivalry game?

“I stayed and finished the season to help the program and players secure a home playoff game. Unfortunately the NCAA transfer portal date doesn’t give me the time or opportunity to stay behind and coach a team I very much would like to”

In short, optics

You’d propose Ole Miss not allow their HC to coach the last game of the season against an in-state, conference rival & risk missing the CFP over the last game of their best season in 50 years?

Ok I guess.

If they lose, they could be out of the playoffs. They need this win and Miss. St. has played some teams close, so you know they want to ruin it for Ole Miss.

It is obvious if nothing happened this week, nothing will happen until after the game next week. I just hope LSU has their number 2 wrapped up, because we can't wait much longer.

Understandable but why just the egg bowl? Why not the playoffs too? And if your answer is he might coach the playoffs then what about early signing period?

If he has any dignity or honor. He probably wants to finish what he started with his guys this year. If he had it his way, he'd rather not be forced to take the job until the season is officially over. But of course, we know that's not how things work in the real world.

Remember, this is the same guy who wanted to continue coaching Bama in the playoffs after accepting a new job, until Saban told him to gtfo.

Maybe contractually he needs to coach the full season to avoid a larger buyout penalty?

Probably because he likes his players and vice versa. These kids understand “the better deal” far more than the generations of players before them. This is the era of NIL.

Game is in Starkville at 11:00am. That’s the definition of an Ole Miss choke outcome.

If Lane leaves before the playoffs I can see the committee leaving them out. They shut FSU out for their qb a few years ago.

Saban allowed him to keep coaching until he showed up so drunk on game day for the first playoff game he needed an IV and Saban had to can his arse

I’m not sure it’s entirely the optics. My guess is if he could see things through and coach out the season with his current team AND still take the LSU job, he’d gladly do so. With the calendar set up the way it is now, it’s just not possible. Bad piece of luck for Ole Miss.

He wants to coach the playoffs. Ole Miss isn’t going to let him.
