For those who love Mamdani, Mamdani loves Mahyar. I really feel sorry for the Iranian people who have to live under the evil mullahs. May the Iranians rise up finally and take back their country.

Azeris are the people who live in Azerbaijan. There are more Azeris living in Iran than in Azerbaijan. They make up about 20% of Iran’s population, and Kurds make up another 10%. Persians are 60%. You can see the potential for ethnic strife.

We need to remind them that diversity is their strength.

They've been planning on moving their capital... I only know this because of the Places channel on youtube.. but anyway, has to do with geography compounded pollution and water scarcity.

Methinks you got clickbaited a bit.

That is exactly what it is about. They are running out of water.

The pollution is terrible there, too... they are in a kind of bowl that doesn’t exchange air very well. And power outages are a problem... anyway, this has been in discussion since 2009 (really 1979)... it isn't breaking news like the video title is blustering about.

This is absolutely a critical issue that most people ignore. The PDB podcast (President's Daily Brief, by ex CIA agent Mike Baker) has been on this for a while. It's B-A-D.

quote:

DUBAI, Nov 12 (Reuters) - Iran is grappling with its worst water crisis in decades, with officials warning that Tehran — a city of more than 10 million — may soon be uninhabitable if the drought gripping the country continues.
President Masoud Pezeshkian has cautioned that if rainfall does not arrive by December, the government must start rationing water in Tehran.

"Even if we do ration and it still does not rain, then we will have no water at all. They (citizens) have to evacuate Tehran," Pezeshkian said on November 6.
The stakes are high for Iran's clerical rulers. In 2021, water shortages sparked violent protests in the southern Khuzestan province. Sporadic protests also broke out in 2018, with farmers in particular accusing the government of water mismanagement.

It’s finally time for the Iranian people to stand up. Either live free or die. I work with a couple of Iranian PHds. They are wonderful smart people.

There are multiple sectarian movements within Iran that could cause problems. First, is the Azeris in the Northwest. There’s more Azeris in Iran than in Azerbaijan, and many would like to leave Iran and join Azerbaijan. Much of Iran’s oil industry is located in majority Azeri territory.

Next, is in the Southeast near the border of Pakistan. This region of Iran is remote and undeveloped, but shares a lot ethnically with an aggrieved minority in Pakistan across the border. As conditions in Pakistan have deteriorated, there have been movements for those peoples to secede from Pakistan and form their own country. Iran worries that in the event those Pakistanis secede, the peoples on the Iranian side of the border will seek to do the same. One of the reasons Iran wants to move their capital there is to help better assimilate and control this minority group. Not to mention that Pakistan is already on the brink of both civil war and an all out war with the Taliban in Afghanistan. Instability is an understatement.

The third issue is the Iraqis in the Southwest. The peoples in this region share much in common with Shittes in Iraq, northern Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain. In the past, Iran sought to use these ties to foster unrest in Northern Saudi Arabia and to topple the Sunni monarchy in Bahrain. However, as the Iranian regime falls apart, those people (who control most of Iran’s oil that isn’t in Azeri dominated areas), could break away. These people also inhabit the region of Saudi Arabia where much of their oil resources are concentrated as well, so it could cause a massive ballyhoo.

Personally I would have figured Iranians to have revolted many years ago instead of living under such harsh conditions imposed by the ayatollah's regime.

Yeah, there has been discussion that the objective is Makran in the SE. It's woefully underdeveloped and a virtual desert with some pretty rough mountains but strategically it would make sense....other side of Hormuz better access to the sea.

Water would be a problem, but then there is also no earthquakes in that area. Ideal are and water resources are up near the Caspian region. That area from what I've seen is beautiful....and green
