They already said he has to give them an answer before the egg bowl or he's not coaching it. That's when we will know where he's going. Not only his future they will have to start a search of their own, that's how I fully expect it to play out reading between the lines. People who come in here telling you a day etc are full of shite and all of them have been wrong so far about anything in this search. I would fricking love it though if Kiffin was a smokescreen for Saban something tells me we will be surprised but happy at the end of this. Naturally I'd love to have either, I guess dilly after both of those guys really don't know much about him other than what I read here.

I do believe Ole Miss wants Lane to commit to them and agree in principle or sign their offer. That’s true.

But unless they are willing to fire him or find something in their current contract that allows them to suspend him, they really don’t have much leverage.

Kiffin (and Sexton) hold the cards here. As long as there is no proof that he signed a deal memo or MOU with another school or an NFL team, Ole Miss truly doesn’t have contractual leverage.

They can turn up the media pressure but Kiffin is better at that game than the Ole Miss AD and boosters are.

This whole thing is retarded by the NCAA. Transfer portal needs to open 2 weeks after the natty is played. If the NCAA doesn't fix this, you're going to see this every year around mid November of guys leaving potentially playoff bound teams for their dream jobs.

The NCAA needs to structure in a way that allows kids to do their enrollment in early December but make an exception for jobs filling head coaching roles to meet and discuss things with a newly hired coach in the period after the natty, before transfer portal opening and afford them to leave w/o consequence to them if they do not fit what the new coach is gonna do.

I agree the transfer portal is screwed up but what you're suggesting isn't an option.
LSU starts classes Jan. 12th.
National Championship is Jan. 19th.
Two weeks later would be Feb 2nd.

Kids still have to decide where to go to school, enroll, move and start taking classes. They would miss half a semester.

I think if you only do one portal it needs to be as soon as spring semester ends and allows the transfers to joint the team the same as high school commits, in the summer.

Some ole Miss moron was arguing yesterday that Keith Carter had all the leverage over Kiffin and Sexton.

I hope they don’t talk to Philly and find out it’s a done deal

Ole Miss is NOT stupid enough to fire a 10-1 coach potentially headed to the playoffs. That would be the most Ole Miss thing ever. They might pull the extension. But they would give it right back. They have no cards. They need to just enjoy the ride and hope they keep winning. I don’t think Kiffin leaves until the season is done, which means maybe he leaves maybe he doesn’t, depending on how long Ole Miss lasts and how long suitors will wait. That’s really the only explanation as to why this drags on and on.

I don't think they will fire him they are going to pressure him into making a decision. Lane will just have to figure out if Ole Miss is worth passing up the opportunity to coach at LSU or Florida. That's the battle, maybe LSU told them they would wait but would be incredibly stupid to throw all eggs into Lanes basket and not start vetting other options

It not like the NCAA set this up in a vacuum. The current system is what the COACHES voted on. I seriously doubt they are going to modify it to appease a handful of programs every year.

He is Coaching his team and otherwise not doing anything wrong. They can't fire him for not signing an extension.

Ole miss needs to know something before playoffs. They don’t want to be sitting on their hands while the top coaches get snapped up

We need the same

We don’t won’t drink because he’s LOOKS like a dork. We want Saban because we can never get over him leaving.

God this fan base is so simple minded to the point its embarrassing.

Of course Ole Miss wants to force his hand to commit to them.

The only avenue is somehow putting him on suspension or admin leave for some legal interpretation or loophole in the contract.

It’s easily the best way to go about it for coaches that are staying. It’s absolutely terrible for coaches that are taking new jobs.

I’m sure most of them voted in it based around the idea of being at the same job and working for the next year, but you’re going to see this circus every time a big job opens from now on.
