I thought Israel has been historically willing to pursue a two state solution, that it was "Palestine" that wouldn't agree.

Off to googling...

Sometimes in the near future - well we supported it, but then this and that happen, so I don't think it's going to happen. It's a shame, it would have been beautiful.

That's not something I voted for.

"And I will enter into judgment with them there, on behalf of my people and my heritage Israel, because they have scattered them among the nations and have divided up my land, Joel 3:2

We should have no part in dividing up the land of Israel.

It’s too late for that. There’s not enough land left in the West Bank for a Palestinian state.

Basically Israel supports Hamas to prevent it while at the same time claiming they support it. Because nobody is going to want to support a Hamas controlled government/state.

Something always happens and then nothing changes in the end.

I have strived (mightily) to find factual, unbiased information on the lack of progress on a two state solution.

I couldn't find anything without a slant.

So I read a little from "both sides", the most moderate of each I could find... while what you say may have basis, it seems to fall short of the fleshed out historical reality.

My main takeaway from my reading is resistance to 2SS is based on distrust, resentment and righteousness. Mainly on the part of the Palestinian people. Not entirely without cause, but definitely taken to the extreme. They will not split the baby, not because they love it but because it is theirs.

Would be a huge mistake to reward the Hamas terrorists in such a way. Fortunately our president supports Israel and Hamas must be defeated.

Folks. There is no such thing as a 'Palestinian'.

It is a made-up term years ago by terrorists like yasser arafat(who was an Egyptian and a multi-billionaire to boot).

The people these so-called 'Palestinians' are mostly Syrian Arabs.

For centuries, the term Palestine was used to refer to that area of the ME as a REGION. Much like we refer to the southern states of America as the 'Southeast'.

The “support” of a 2SS is window dressing. “Owned” has more than one facet. When the president openly calls for the judiciary in Israel to exonerate Netanyahu of corruption charges whose trial has been in a holding pattern for a couple of years, that can’t simply be ignored.

And the others quoting scriptures comparing the Zionist political state created in 1948 to biblical Israel is cognitive dissonance, just as is dismissing the Palestinian presence prior to that time as insignificant.

The sophomoric pejoratives “Hamas bros” , “owned by Israel bros” and other similar jibes are feeble efforts to dissuade analytical thinking on these matters past tribal politics.

The two state solution had long been the policy of the United States.

Yes, Israel and the US have always supported a two-state solution but with conditions. One of those conditions that always prevented it was that the Palestinians, and the surrounding Arab States, would have to recognize Israel as a nation. That was always refused.

An argument can be made that Israel’s position, as stated above, was faked; that they knew the Palestinians would never recognize Israel, and that is why they offered it. This might be true, but it is unkowable.

This thread is a preposterous and obvious lie. The two-state solution has long been US policy.

Short article showing long history of US support for Two State Solution

Maybe there was no such thing as a Palestinian. There most certainly is now though. When people are lumped together in highly-charged, negative circumstances they tend to unite into a cohesive group.

to a degree this is a fair take imo.. There have been preliminary agreements to a two state solution over the years with Israel on board that have either been rejected by Palestinian leadership or scuttled by Hamas due to violence. Generally it seems Israel doesn't pursue it in earnest because they don't seem to think they have to...

That’s easy. Israel was directly involved in drafting the resolution.

The original plan was to have a two state solution. The Arabs said no and then started a war. They lost.

So essentially all this mess could have ended a long time ago.

Think about the south losing the civil war. But instead of coming together we started suicide bombing the north. That’s what the Arabs did.

Wasn’t it Clinton that brought them together, and Arafat bailed at the last minute? The Jihadis would have killed him if he had signed.

Now if Trump has in some way convinced Islam to drop the destruction of Israel from their theological base, that would indeed be extraordinary. But a lot of those people are bat Sh*# crazy and their very lives are based on the drama and self worth in that ‘noble cause’. Take that away and they have nothing to make life worth living.

I might be that way re my own Belief. Go figure.

Yes the Robert Barnes tweet and the title of the thread are wrong.

We have never recognized Palestine as a state. But we have definitely pushed for a two state solution.
