How do we hire another coach if we don’t pay Kelly his buyout?

We’re now in a big mess over Kelly’s $53 million buyout. He says we owe all of it and we don’t want to pay it all, but we didn’t get that worked out before we fired him.

Why would another coach come jere if we can fire him like this and then not pay the buyout?

It’s a good question and it isn’t a great look at all.

No top tier coach is coming here.

Young guy or retread like Gundy.

Thought Ryan Williams (The Billionaire) from Baton Rouge was paying the bulk of Kelly's buyout.

Not really as concerned about this.
When any contract is exercised, there will be maneuvering by both parties.

Anyone in the coaching business knows that happens with buyouts if fired.

If we come out hard and start slinging dirt publicly on BK that’s when I think it could affect the search.

LSU doesn't have to cut a check for $53M. They have to pay BK the remainder of his contract in monthly installments. There is no indication LSU isn't abiding by the terms of the contract. They are trying to negotiate a lower, lump sum payment. Now, the means of how they are doing that is a different discussion. But LSU is not "stiffing" BK right now

Fortunately for us, specifically in the PR realm, we have an email from BK stating he was willing to negotiate the buyout. So that, at the veey keast, gives us a little bit of cover and buys us some time.

It really doesn’t matter how much and when it is paid. The funds were secured and whoever signed off realized it may have been in full.

The firing doesn’t take place if people don’t float the bill and sign off on it.

Maybe things changed after we fired SW or SW got fired bc he effed this up so bad?

Well we are going to have to pay his buyout unless he settles… we can’t just not pay him.

Because coaches have enormous egos and the guy you want as your next coach thinks that he will never give a reason to get fired.

Li don’t think LSU is trying to get out of paying Kelly. They are hoping to pay him a lump sum now.

This is a negotiation. Most petites understand that. M

Now, if LSU tried to invoke a clause that is questionable in an attempt to not pay at all then I do think it could impact the hiring process.

But even then, you’d basically have Kelly being labeled as public enemy with all of his dirty laundry being aired.

Well, he'd have to agree to take less or be fired for cause. If he's fired for cause, I think they had to notify him and give him time to respond. I get that people think its a bad look but its also bad if you agree to $100M job to coach and then half arse it. Its both ways and adults understand that cause is cause and should be clearly defined. If they tried to fire for cause, I'm sure BK would take it to court and it would be public info on the nature of the cause. Unless BK settles all of the sudden.
