Without the government tax credit, they lost more than 1/2 the customers. Will companies continue to invest in new EVs models if they represent less than 5% of their sales? Is the government still going to invest billions in charging stations every 50 miles?

No real infrastructure for it. Even in the EU, where there is support, EVs do not seem like a winning idea. The best EVs made today, Cupra, is facing hard times. Seems like Tesla is the only manufacturer somewhat immune.

They've always seemed like a relatively niche vehicle being propped up by the tax credit, and now that the credit is gone the market is flooded with just about every manufacture making an EV, I suspect many will sit as they struggle to move them. Example: The local Mercedes dealer still has a brand new 2023 EV on the lot.

It's a 2023 EQB 300 that they must've been using as a demo/loaner, has 3184 miles on it but being sold as new for $60k.
For reference, here's a used 2023 EQB 300, albeit with 33,000 miles, for $20,995 on AutoTempest.

\Battery technology is advancing at an astounding pace, and that is the limiting factor. I think we’ll all be driving an EV in our lifetime.

Expecting people to pay premium prices for vehicles that are less capable in every way than gas vehicles just for the sake of being trendy or environmentally conscious was never a very smart business model. At Least when you take out billions in government subsidies..

Federal Govt spent billions retooling factories for these corporations to build more EVs.

EV sales are massive in Europe and Asia
US automakers want in on this market and will continue to develop and produce.
Not sure if there is a good reason for it, but EV stocks like Rivian are exploding recently.
IMO, still the future and the US should take seriously to be competitive/industry leader.

Different markets though, completely. What car companies do internationally and what they do locally really are not relatable.
Europe has long been into the small diesels too.
Very very few Euros commute to work for more than 15-20 miles. That's very normal, in the USA as an example.
