Prior to Diego pavia’s arrival, in his 3 seasons at Vanderbilt his record was 9-27 including 2 different 2-10 seasons. Granted Vanderbilt is not at all a powerhouse and maybe it’s possible the NIL collective picked up after getting pavia but man that record is rough. Kinda interested to see how much of his success is tied to pavia when considering him for the LSU job

It's a valid concern.

This is why I like Lane so much. He has proven through multiple QBs he can score in the SEC.

That's the problem with hiring a coach based on one or two good seasons. The right QB can make a coach look better than he is - Hallman/Farve

Plenty of coaches have secured generational wealth for their family based on the performance of one or two 20 year old college kids.

The defense held USCe to 7 without Pavia playing on that side.

Absolutely. Jerry Kill is the architect of that program right now. He really doesn't get recognized enough for being as good as he is. Likely because he spent most of his career in the backwater of the college football landscape. Sadly his his health was a factor too and why he left coaching.

Guy won at Minnesota.

Had a health issue, stroke?

He’s a real coach.

He has epilepsy and when he was a head coach had multiple seizures during games, leading to hospitalizations, leaves of absence, etc.

He sort of built Northern Illinois too, I think.

He’s never really been at a blue blood to my knowledge, but he can coach circles around Hew Fraud.

Yeah he would still be coaching in the Big 10 today if health hadn’t derailed his career.

This is a lame take at this point. Their offense did nothing and Pavia played like shite against Missouri, but they won the game because their defense held Missouri to 10 points. Pavia played like shite against Auburn last season as well, and Vandy won because their defense held Auburn to just 7 points.

Who is the defensive wiz on that staff? Jerry Kill? Or is it Clark Lea - the guy who got the job because he was an elite DC at Notre Dame?

The other part to this that no one can answer: if Pavia, Kill, and Beck are supposedly this dream-team that can come in and by themselves dominate the SEC, then why wasn't New Mexico State dick-slapping all of the crap competition they faced? They won games there, but in their final season Liberty blew them out twice, and a few other teams with weaker records than them beat them as well. They lost 5 games in their final season, and got blown out in their Bowl game by Fresno State by a score of 37-10.

The idea that Clark Lea has nothing to do with their success is moronic.
