The unfortunate reality is this hire will not be sorted out until January.

If we are pursuing big name options then outside of Saban, all of the options will likely be coaching int late December or early January.
I would like answers soon but it’s just not going to happen.
Translation: gonna be a wild 2 months on the Coaching Changes board

Schools make agreements with coaches before seasons are over. Happens all the time.

I wouldn't discount Ole Miss choking late in the season lol
at worst, they won't make it out of the 2nd round of the cfp. I think this could be a New Years' think, but if Lane is the guy you have to lock him up in principle

Remember. According to all the rumors Les Miles was 100% gone from LSU for Michigan before early leaks and that ruined it all.
LSU gonna do their best to keep things very quiet for a while.
What may be a give away is what recruits at LSU and other schools start doing.
If you all of a sudden see a lot of interest from dual threat transfers it may indicate a Lanning or a Kiffin type guy.

Don't trust that. He can always change his mind. In the meantime, signing days pass and coaches you could have hired may no longer been available.

There was basically no smoke around Kelly last time. Pretty masterful the way they hid it.

If they are pursuing Kiffin, Lanning, or any high-dollar, successful P4 coach, I agree.
If they decide to pick an up and coming G5 or a coordinator, they won’t let them wait.

It can’t be January if we want current players to stay out of the portal and we want our new coach to be able to get portal players. It has to at least be announced.

They do, but it’s not usually on the level of head coach like Lane Kiffin who will be leaving a playoff team for a non playoff team.

The beauty of our situation is the job is very attractive.
So we will have suitors. I just hope our guys do their due diligence and vet as many prospects as they can.
I’d hope for Lanning or Kiffin but would not be opposed to someone else if the powers that be do deep research and present a good case on why someone else is a better option.
Kelly was a big splash 4 years ago but was clearly not deeply researched.

There is no February signing day anymore. You don't want a signing day to go by with no head coach. It will be so easy to lose every single top player. Not to mention the portal rules this year. LSU will end up getting whoever will come with 2 weeks left of recruiting. You literally cannot wait until January.

Yeah, plus the new President coming in, woody still has to be fired, then New AD. Then you announce the new head coach after the NCAA championship or if they aren’t in that game, right after their teams run is done………… Kiffin cough…. Cough
