So this place has been on my list for a few years but looking at online reviews it seems they have gone downhill. Has anyone eaten there recently and is it as mediocre as the reviews suggest? Is there any other similar type place w/ seafood that would be good for lunch on the Saturday after Thanksgiving? We will be driving from NOLA to Nachitoches that day so something in the Opelousas area give or take 30 miles would be idea. I'm also gonna drive through Whiteville where my Mawmaw was born and Stelly's is close by and gets good reviews. Any opinions of that place?

The neighborhood it's located in has probably gone downhill more than the restaurant. However, I have heard from folks who have been within the past few years it isn't quite as good as it used to be.

I haven't eaten there in probably 15 years or so, but man...they used to have some of the best fried shrimp and stuffed shrimp you could find in Louisiana.

If driving along the I-49 corridor, check out The Steamboat Warehouse in Washington, La. Hands down, the best restaurant in the area...

soileaus is nothing like it used to be but may be good enough. I wouldnt recommend it to anyone. Cafe josephine which is about 10 min south on I49 from 190 is open for lunch on saturdays and would be a much better recommendation...but they arent the cheapest place either.

They still do. Its excellent (although it could be seasoned a little more - that would take it over the top)

I really like it. My favorite is the pecan brochette (pictured). The fried shrimp and tartar sauce are very good as well.

Food wise, I would say it is still good.

As one person said, pecan brochette is really good.

Service wise, tough to get good service in Opelousas.

From there, and usually when on an extended stay back home we order from there.

I like it and as someone else mentioned the Pecan Brochette is good. I think all their fried seafood dishes are good and they have the best homemade Tartar Sauce.

Was going to post this. OP, you may want to call them and make a reservation. They can get crowded

x 100 ... wife is from the Big O and I've dined at Soileau's countless times. I've always ordered the (2) soft shell crab dinner or the NY Strip. You can buy the tartar sauce to-go if you want.
