Did anyone hit a rock bottom and go back to church and life slowly got better for them?

Not sure if its a coincidence for me but I hit rock bottom in my life from 2020 to mid 2022 with drinking, pills and going through a really bad divorce, got sober in April 2022 and still after that life was rough. Dealt with a lot of anger and was still depressed, life was still rough for me, then last September after a hospital stay and having fricked up dreams I decided to go back to religion. I tried several churches but ultimately went back to the Catholic Church since I grew up in it and went to Catholic school my whole life up until college. Since going back my life has gotten better by leaps and bounds. Its kinda crazy for me to say this but things have never been better for me right now,yea there are still bad days but overall I love life right now.

Not sure if its a coincidence or not but I think going back to God and Jesus has a lot to do with it.

Sorry for the Dear Facebook post and yea I know people are gonna rip me for a lot of this because of my past on here.

Try attending an ACTS Retreat if available in your Parish. Will only help strengthen your faith.

I am personally not a believer however I think that religion helps a lot of people. So if it works for you then it is a great thing. Congratulations on turning things around. So many people can't

I think for people whose lives lack meaning and structure, choosing to seek out and then sticking with a structure will almost always have a massive impact on their quality of life. Irrespective of whether Catholicism in particular or even Christianity in general is “true”, the Catholicism you grew up with resonated with you, and was therefore the structure you were most likely to stick with.

Genuinely glad you’re doing better, man

I will be sincere on this forum for once and say my whole life turned around after a failed relationship and I started attending mass. Big traditional churches appealed to me and then I went to RCIA and the rest is history. Best decision I ever made.

It was the shittiest of times. Great working finding the path out.

I started getting serious about attending Mass and pondering my faith about 2 years ago. I won't equate my issues to yours by calling it rock bottom, but I am in a much better place now and I know that's why.

A good therapist could have gotten you there, and you wouldn't be paying to settle sex abuse scandals.

I am going thru a very similar situation, except I am sober now. Was I when it all started to crumble? NO, but clinging to God has absolutely made staying sober possible. Does life suck compared to before? Absolutely. However, With God I dont have to drink or take anything to get through. Its best to find purpose in life, even if it's a new purpose

I’ve never in my 43 years heard one single person say this: “I regret giving my life to Jesus.”

Hard to kick a drug habit, people need a strong support group.

The longer you are sober the more dangerous it is to return. Lost a few friends over the years from those who fell off the wagon after many years.

Support groups at places like churches make a big difference

I’m 44 years old and around 2016-2017 I completely hit bottom. Stuff I won’t go into on here. Over the last 8 years or so, I have really turned my life around with God’s help. You can do it. Just know it will be hard and it will be slow. But it will be worth it.
